OYO Knowesgate Inn, Northumberland National Park

BE AWARE THIS PLACE IS SHUT. But they are still taking bookings. I phoned the local post office to confirm the Knowesgate Inn was closed and in a state of disrepair and has been for about 6 months. They are still advertising on *********** and Oyo.com

Absolutely Disgusting.. Blood on my friends sheets, dirty table cloths from the days before. Rooms not as described, We asked for early breakfast as we were running the Great North Run but no one around when we came down so helped ourselves to some cereal.. out of date milk in the fridge... Luckily we were only there for less than 10 hours.. Wouldnt go back if they paid us..!!!

I cannot comment on the actual hotel as they cancelled our booking at 7pm the night before we were due to stay, no explanation or alternative offered -1st time staying with OYO and definitely the last.

DO NOT BOOK! I booked on *********** but was advised by family in the area that the hotel is CLOsED. I have not had a resolution to my request for full refund., the contact numbers don’t work, and I have stayed elsewhere

This 'hotel' has been closed for a month (at least) according to the man in the adjacent but unconnected petrol station. According to locals it was closed for many years, bought by new owners, possibly opened and then very soon closed again. It is (June '23) two steps up from derelict.

I booked this “hotel” through ******* around six months ago. I am on a walking holiday across Northumberland and this place was they only stopover in the area. The reviews looked pretty dire but beggars cannot be choosers! We set off from Hexham on the anointed day and two hours walking from the “hotel” we received an e mail saying the booking had been cancelled due to “unavoidable circumstances “. I called OYO and after a long conversation the employee basically told me that there was nothing she could do - usual platitudes of understanding my problems and very sorry etc etc. the “hotel” is in the middle of nowhere- no buses, trains - no other accommodation at all. This is the worst hotel experience that I have ever had - how can you treat people like this and expect them to be happy and say nothing! This place is clearly going nowhere under this owner and I suspect will close. OYO should be a little more focused on who they allow to be franchisees within their group. Just for the irony OYO stands for On Your Own - well at the Knowesgate “Hotel” we really were!

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL THROUGH ANY SITE!!!!! We arrived here yesterday after booking on ********** for a one night stay. The booking was paid upfront as there was no other option. When we arrived at the hotel and parked in the car park (myself, my mother and my 2 children aged 13 & 11) we were met with what I would describe is something from a horror movie. Both my children nor my mother wanted to get out the car. I persuaded them that it’s ok and we will go and have a look to see what’s what. We walked to a small back door which had the sign reception above it and a full dirty ash tray outside. The door was locked so we proceeded to walk to the front of the hotel which had a conservatory type building. Just as we started walking over a man was staring out of the hotel at myself and my son from what looked like extension on the hotel. My son then said to me mam I don’t like it please can we go now. We got to the front and the same man then shouted from the back asking us what we are doing there. Whilst he was asking another gentleman answered the door. He said to us the hotel is closed and that he would ring someone to get a refund for us. He could they through so he pointed to me and told me to ring them. By this time the kids and my mother wanted away asap upset and stranded not having a clue what to do. The carpets etc were absolutely disgusting when we looked in infact the whole place was absolutely disgusting rubbish all over the back car park and a delapidated old building that needs destroyed. I would be amazed if this was ever to open as a hotel again. We spoke to hotel.com who initially stated that there was a “no refund policy” on the booking to which I fought my case and eventually the refund is being processed however how many other people has this happened to where the hotel has not given a refund?? We were miles away from home and stranded and lucky for us we found an amazing place in Elsdon (Bird in Bush) and the staff and owner in there made sure we had the best stay due to what had happened as it was appalling especially with my mother being 72 and us having to two kids with us. Please do not book this hotel as I really believe all the “no refund policies” on the booking they take are for the refurbishment of this place. Book the Bird in Bush at Elsdon and you certainly will not be disappointed. We will never book another OYO Hotel again. It’s an absolute disgrace this property is still advertised on various sites.

Needed somewhere to stay for the night after a long day's driving, happened upon the Knowesgate. Almost empty inside, they said they could accommodate us and as nowhere else near, we booked in. Unfortunately the room looked tired, needs a lick of paint. Bath towel on the bed was damp and lukewarm water out of both hot and cold taps. Restaurant serving Indian food was okay, clean bar but hand pumps not working. Given sheet to order breakfast (7:30-8:30) although bar menu said 8:00-10:00. As we wanted an early start said 7:30. Up ready for breakfast 7:30 - no-one around and our breakfast order still in reception area. Only stay here if absolutely desperate.

Can’t get away with no stars!!! I’ve slept in better bushes in my garden! This place is the funnest place you’ve ever stop it’s it just so diseased it is hilarious. I really just don’t know where to start! Warning do not stop only if you would like a wood screw and mouse poo in your bed, cold air and traffic due to window not being connected to the building, toilet cleaning you while having a wee, poo stains looking at you while on toilet!!! POSITIVE- all drinks same price and pool table is start! *** PLEASE DO NOT STOP ***
