Toraja Misiliana Hotel

Misiliana Hotel offers a truly beautiful setting, nestled in lush greenery and close to Toraja’s natural wonders while still being conveniently near the city center. The serene atmosphere and scenic surroundings are perfect for travelers seeking a peaceful escape. Unfortunately the rooms were very outdated, everything was old and almost broken. We encountered persistent issues with insects—particularly ants and wasps—which made the stay less comfortable. Although we reported this to the front desk, unfortunately there was no follow-up, and the problem persisted. The service at the restaurant are very slow, the food were okay.

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel. We really wanted to explore Tana Toraja. You are welcomed with a drink at the large open air reception area. A porter immediately tales care of your luggage. This hotel is setup in a very lush atmosphere. The first thing you will notice are the tongkonan houses in the center area. Besides that there are a lot of trees and even small sawa’s. Our room was on the upper floor of a building that has two rooms. There is a terrace with two chairs that are not comfortable. There is room has the size of a standard hotel room. Albeit that there is a joining side room with a closet and room to stuff your bags and such. Furniture is oke. There is a refrigerator that does a decent job, as does the airco. There is coffee and tea and also a bottle of water. All of this is supplemented each day. But they do forget some items though. The bathroom is spacious enough. The shower works well and the whole bathroom is just that. A bathroom. The whole room, including the bathroom, has the upper part of the windows replaced by mesh. This makes you feel right in the middle of nature. Which is really nice. However, it may also keep you up at night because nature is not quiet! You will hear the frogs in the gardens and the sawa’s the crickets and early morning, all of these are replaced by birds. And this can be quite loud. It didn’t bother us, but just giving you the heads up. We used the pool too. It is oke to cool down, nothing more. Sunbeds are made of iron and that is what your back will feel. Only a few of them. You can get a pooltowel. If you are lucky to find the poolguy around. We had breakfast and dinner here. There aren’t really many other options around that cater for western people that we are. But we thought it all to be really oke. We also used the bar area and it is really great that you can enjoy a late afternoon drink, after a full day away. Although we went in the “dry season” we were still treated to some serious showers in the afternoon. The hotel has large chinese hats to use to keep dry and they work remarkably well. This hotel is not super luxurious. It is, however, a really decent upper level tourist class hotel. Apparently also in demand by Indonesian government officials too, as we saw parties having dinner here. We enjoyed our stay. We can recommend this hotel but be aware there can be shortcomings. morning view from the hotel when the sky is bright is beautiful. The bed and pillow arent comfortable but the room is huge with a big bath room, big mirror and wardrobe area. The tv channel didnt work but the wifi was OK, so I was saved. Most of the guests are foreigner.

it definitely has a cool ambience with the Tongkanen traditional buildings and mountains in background. Wi-Fi was strong ( important in middle of nowhere). I would give the breakfast buffet a 7/10. Bar area was nice. Nice pool area for kids. Things to improve on 1. Information. I was told I could have dinner in the restaurant at 7 PM only to be told at 7 PM that they had a special group there and I couldn’t eat there. 2. Checking the bedroom before your guest gets there. The toilet was loud and was running all night. 3. Checking the electrical. One light took 10 minutes to come on and then on the second night 75% of the outlets didn’t work for charging my phone. Just doing simple room maintenance occasionally would help. 4. Making simple adjustments. There is a little bit of a crack underneath the entrance door, and when I came back the first night, there was a giant slug that had gotten in which was kind of gross but at the same time I realize I’m out in the jungle. However, this wouldn’t happen if the door was fitted properly. Obviously, I know what to expect because the hotel is out in the middle of Tana Toraja but it could improve on a few things

Tana Torago is really struggling to fill more than the low budget traveller as far as facilities go. Which is fine if that’s what they also charge. Our prebooked accom was not available when we arrived and after checking several places that were bad ( mould, no windows, etc) and after a 12 hour car trip from Makassar I booked Misiliana in desperation. There were three of us travelling and the 2 bed suite cost over Au $550 a night. It was a huge expense for us but I thought at least it would be special. Well the cottage was so creaky getting up in the night woke everyone up, It wasn’t clean, beds were hard, cold showers at times, dirty pool, tasteless breakfast and meals. The gardens are lovely. We are happy to rough it when we travel if the place and price matches the experience but this hotel was barely better than the one we paid $18 a night at previously in Tana Toraja. The cottage looked cute, sleeps 6 if you use upstairs ( don’t) but has a table for 2.

My wife and I stayed here for 13 nights between the 10th and the 22 July. We enjoyed our stay. Our room was peaceful and cleaned every day. The cleaning service is excellent. I wish to thank the staff for giving us a bowl of fresh fruit for free on at least 3 occasions during our stay. I also wish to thank one particular staff member who went out of his way to help me following a bout of food poisoning (That was caused by eating chicken not cooked properly at a restaurant in town and not from the hotel). That really assisted me and my recovery. A special thank you to that staff member. Breakfast is well presented and a large variety is presented every morning. I also liked the welcome on the TV screen which is the first I have seen anywhere. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for guests and for any future stays in Toraja which is highly likely. This is where we will be staying. Thank you to all the staff of Hotel Misiliana and especially the cleaners who cleaned our room.
