We had a lovely two night stay at the hotel, it is in a beautiful location and when the weather cooperates (as it mostly did for us) it is really special. March is very much the start of the tourist season, so it was quiet enough (initially!) and the village was reasonably calm too, which suited us perfectly for a weekend break. We had a room with a balcony on the first floor, it was very comfortable and the bed was very good. The staff were generally very nice, but some were a bit clueless, Basil Fawlty would have been proud! But nothing too bothersome. The breakfast was average enough, ingredients not the best I'm guessing. They had lovely brown bread and one morning my wife asked for some more and was given some bread which was still frozen! It made us laugh more than anything, but for sure not great service. All a bit clumsy, but again, maybe start of season stuff. My biggest complaint was that on our second night we saw a large group checking into the adjacent apartments and there was some event in the function room. Good for them and it didn't impact us that evening as we went down the village for some food and drink (D. O'Sheas, very good). It was only when we were awoken from our bed at 4am by people roaring out "An Poc ar Buile" etc. that it became a problem. I phoned reception after a while and the guy told me the party was finishing up just then and the bar had been finished since 2am. Not sure I accept all of that, but in any case, did they have to wait for someone to be annoyed enough to complain before dealing with it? People roaring their heads off at that hour was definitely going to annoy more than us. If most of those people at the event were staying in the apartments, why not deliver drink to them over there and leave the hotel itself in peace? Anyway, I got to sleep again at 6am after that disturbance, but definitely not impressed. I'd give the hotel 3.5 out of 5 if I could, but not an option on the website. I would stay again but would be checking if there is an event on in the hotel first! it does seem to market itself as a wedding etc. location, good luck to them, but that doesn't usually gel with people looking for a quiet break.
