Galaxy Hotel

Accommodation - dated but clean and well maintained, all with fridge, free air conditioning and private balcony. Sea view rooms benefit from stunning sunsets. For the price, the room standard and hotel amenities is more than acceptable and represents great value. Pool - well maintained and decent sized for swimming lengths. It was always empty when I swam over the 3 days I stayed. Plenty of sunbeds and tables and chairs. In October, the pool bar is unmanned but a receptionist will come and serve drinks upon request. Standard of cleaning - flawless. Breakfast - service top notch with the friendly and kind Ellen single handedly running the whole service. I particularly enjoyed the delicious pastries on offer each day, for example the spiral spanakopita (filo spinach pie) and mini sausage rolls. Machine coffee wasn’t to my taste but I brought my own favourite instant coffee from UK. Garden - well maintained and beautiful October blooms to enjoy. Location - a beautiful and scenic location on the Fanari Road, with several little coves dotted along the entire route , including one immediately opposite the hotel entrance. Just a 4 minute walk to the iconic St Theodore Lighthouse where the most incredible sunsets can be viewed and further along, Fanari Beach, 6 minutes away on foot. Airport is a 15 minute drive away (€25 taxi) and Argostoli a 10 minute drive away (€8). Local Restaurants - the closest are both a 6 minute walk away along the Fanari Road, in the direction of Argostoli. The first belongs to the campsite and had already closed for the season when I arrived on 14/10/24. Next door is the welcoming TAVERNA TA DIDYMAKIA (see my separate review), currently open until 5pm each day. In Argostoli there are lots of restaurants to choose from which remain open all year round. The flat walk from the hotel to the main Argostoli harbour front restaurants takes around 40 minutes but it’s a scenic one and I found the time passed very quickly. Before reaching Argostoli, and a 30 minute walk from the hotel, is PALA PLAKIA TAVERNA (see separate review). This is a great quality and value traditional Greek restaurant overlooking the sea and Argostoli cruise terminal. Open only until 6pm and always full, mainly with locals. Does takeaway too. Another great value, typically Greek restaurant in Argostoli is PATSOURAS (see separate review) on the harbour front opposite Alpha Bank and close to the turtle viewing point. Staff - welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and without even asking, they assisted me on numerous occasions and offered a great service to all their guests From the Fanari Road where the hotel is located, there is no bus service from the airport or to Argostoli or Lassi. Hiring a car is advisable to reach restaurants and all the magnificent sights and beaches around the island. Car hire in October is incredibly good value at around € 11 a day with reputable car hire firms such as RENT CAR KEFALONIA based at the air

I stayed here between 4th and 11th September 2024 on a bed and breakfast basis. My friend and I each had a double room for single occupancy. My room was a little dated but was clean and had everything I needed. The aircon was good, and I had a fridge and a safe at no extra cost. My room was on the first floor and I had a pleasant sea view from the balcony. We loved the quiet location. The only noise at night that we experienced was on the Saturday when a wedding reception was held in a nearby function room. Otherwise, it was very peaceful. The reception area was very comfortable and clean, as was the breakfast area. Plenty of choice available to eat, both hot and cold. We loved the seawater pool. Very clean and never crowded, with a small bar alongside. Turning right from the hotel, a few minutes walk takes you to two laid back tavernas right next to each other, Fanari and Didimakia. We tried both and the food was very good and reasonably priced. Another 15 minutes walk takes you to a slightly more upmarket restaurant, Vinaries. We had a fabulous meal with wine there and it was very reasonably priced. A walk from the hotel into Argostoli was 25 minutes on the flat coastal road. We walked there and back most days, but if you don't want to walk, a cab costs 8 euros. Turning left out of the hotel, we walked into Lassi. This took 50 minutes and was mostly on the flat with a few inclines, but nothing too strenuous. The cab back cost 10 euros. There are a couple of small coves just a few minutes walk from the hotel if you want to go into the sea. The sea was beautifully clean and clear. We really enjoyed our stay at the Galaxy Hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. I thought the holiday was great value for money and my only regret is that I didn't book for longer than one week.

10 out of 10 from me for a lovely friendly stay at the Galaxy hotel. Family run and staff were so lovely and nothing was too much to help you. Breakfast was plentiful in a nice relaxing atmosphere. Pool was great and area always clean with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. A lovely place to relax After many years of living and holidaying in Kefalonia I now have found my favourite place

Our 3rd visit to this lovely hotel, so chilled and relaxing, great pool, no rush for sunbeds, wonderful view from our room, lots of returning guests says it all, great staff and a special thank you to Petros the hotel owner who personally drove one of our party to hospital when she was taken ill, amazing customer service!!, we will be back next year.

Nice family run hotel. Almost every guest I spoke to was a returning guest. On the road between lassi and agostoli. Walkable but in the heat much easier to get a taxi 8euro to agostoli or 10euro to lassi. Reception will call you a taxi usually arrives within 5mins. Breakfast is traditional Greek there's plenty. The family who run the hotel are so friendly and can't do enough for you I can see why people return. Traditional Greek room fridge in room to keep drinks cold.

Such a chilled hotel, peaceful location. Midway between Lassi & Argostoli. Plenty parking if you hire a car, we didn’t, no local bus runs past the hotel, but a taxi is easy enough, maybe €8 or €10 euros depending where you are dropped. Helen cooks all the breakfast stuff fresh each day, plenty of choice, from pastries, cereals, bacon, eggs; sausages, cooked meat, cheese, toast, butter jam, honey, coffee, tea, orange juice, fresh fruit. Helen & Petros are so helpful, nothing is too much bother. Room I had, had a double bed (single traveller), a fridge, double wardrobe with a safe inside, little dressing table, no hairdryer in the room, I was offered one though. Bathroom, very basic, typically greek. My balcony had lovely sea views . Couple of restaurants about 5 minutes around the corner, I think one was part of a caravan park, absolutely massive portions! And cheap too. If you want to.. you can go into the clubhouse on the caravan park … has karaoke etc ( I never went) . For a bigger selection of restaurants - lassi & Argostoli are nearby, some reviews say walkable - I didn’t - taxi for me, 68yrs old and 33 degrees at 7pm 🥵. Did an island tour - chosen from a leaflet in reception, went to Fiskardo, Melissina caves, Asos, viewing platform at Myrtis cove, fabulous day €40, I thought was a bargain
