Where are the Elks? They don't tell you about the mosquitoes or that there is nothing do do except walk around the lakes or go on over priced guided tours. On the 240 euro per couple Elk Tour we saw no animals at all of any kind. The guide drove her old 2 wheel drive family car down forrest tracks unreasonably quickly. As it bounced around angrily we were expected to spot an individual perfectly disguised animal in the gloom lit by only the headlights. The guide inferred that the Elks were hiding till it got colder as it was unseasonably warm. But this is a summer tour and September is the end of Summer, and the tour had been running the past 2 peak summer months when it is much warmer. I advise a high degree of wariness for any shiny brochure or website advertising guided tours. You might be better looking for Elks elsewhere or at least not in August/September when the day light hours have diminished such that you are essentially searching for them in the dark and unknowingly wasting your money. We booked the Christmas holidays package and spent 5 nights at hotel Kalevala. It was by far the best Christmas experience ever. We had a modern room facing towards the frozen lake with a great view. A fairytale visit to Santa's facilities, a snowshoe walk, a short reindeer sleigh ride, smoke sauna and evening sauna w/ jacuzzis were included in our package and totally worth their price. Additionally, we did a husky sleigh ride and a snowmobile ride, which were a once in a lifetime experience. Food was tasty. There is just a minor improvement suggestion: Please label the dishes in restaurant. Although everything was good, we didn't know what we were eating several times. Would we come back? Definitely, but in a different season because we don't want to spoil our memories of this great experience.

This is a very nice hotel that takes full advantage of it's lakeside location. I very much enjoyed the view of the lake from my room. Also I like that the trees were not all cut down between the lake shore and hotel, this is a more eco-friendly type of development method more builders should be mindful of. I was here with a group visiting Winter War sites for two days and every one enjoyed the food very much. There were breakfast buffet items I did not get to try because the plate was full before I got to them. Staff was very attentive and there was a rather relaxed atmosphere here, maybe because of the view of the lake from most any place in the hotel.

Hotel Kalevala ligt prachtig gesitueerd, maar de kamers moeten nodig een make over hebben, en dan met name de badkamers. Deze zijn echt te klein en sterk verouderd. Als je door het hotel loopt, ruikt alles muf en naar oud gebouw. Echt zonde! Receptiepersoneel heeft er zo na het hoogseizoen ook niet echt zin meer in. Ieder woord is teveel.
