John O'Groats

Well as we live in Sutherland and not too far away from John O Groats, we thought we'd have a day out. Up to Wick and on to J.O.G. The roads through Wick and beyond are diabolical, pot holes all over the roads, more craters than the moon! If you're planning it pack extra shock absorbers, don't travel at night or in the rain as you can't spot the holes the puddles are pretty deep! and for God sake bikers please be extremely careful!! As for the famous place itself, well what can I say except not a lot in its favour! Road apparently stripped of tarmac obviously due to be resurfaced when who knows!, not ideal to encourage visitors, car parking £3+ for up to 24 hours, like your going to spend much time there!! Place is looking pretty tired and not worth the trip, many go just for the iconic end of the UK photos. Shame as used to enjoy a run for a visit.

Sadly John O Groats is in need of a lot of T L C! It is tired, very tired. It was packed! We found it hard to find a parking space. Several empty and uncared for shops, grass growing in between the paving flags, gents toilet facilities were closed. Prices for food was higher than expected. The new Distillery was very nice and the staff friendly. The Brewery was good too, but otherwise souvenirs were tacky. The scenery on the way to and from John O Groats was stunning however as we're the views over to Orkney.

Where to start, very nice tarmac carpark, which is £3 for all day, just such a shame the toilet facilities are so bad. Ladies toilets 3 working, 4 out of order and the smell. Think whoever allows the toilets to be open needs to rethink what people need

As we had been to James end three years before and we were 65 miles from John o groats it seemed like it would have been a missed opportunity if we didn’t complete the iconic journey so we pushed on! It was great to finally arrive and in a similar way to lands end there isn’t a huge amount to see, there’s the signpost and a few shops and the visitor centre , but it was worth it to say we have done it!
