We spent two nights at Le Royal Camps in Jaisalmer and had a reasonably enjoyable experience, though there were areas for improvement. Pros: 1. The tent-style rooms provided a unique and rustic experience, perfect for those seeking a taste of the wilderness. 2. The location is a big advantage, being close to the iconic sand dunes, which made exploring the desert convenient. 3. The local heritage programs hosted at the property were vibrant and entertaining, giving us a glimpse of Rajasthan’s rich culture. 4. The food served was flavorful, with a touch of local cuisine. 5. The staff, especially at the front desk, were polite and accommodating, making the check-in and other processes smooth. Cons: 1. A significant disappointment was that the property is not on sandy terrain but on plain land, so don’t expect to stay amidst the dunes. 2. Given the cold December nights, the room heaters provided were not effective, making it difficult to stay warm. 3. While the tents were functional, they lacked a luxurious touch and could benefit from better upkeep. 4. Although the food was tasty, there was a lack of variety, and the breakfast service was below par, with the live counter almost non-existent. 5. The location, while close to the dunes, is far from Jaisalmer Fort and the famous havelis, requiring extra travel to visit these attractions. Overall, Le Royal Camps is a good option for experiencing the desert lifestyle and enjoying cultural programs, but it falls short in providing comfort and luxury. A few upgrades in facilities and service could make it a more compelling choice for travelers.
