North Gate Hotel

Formerly a Jetwing Hotel (and still appears listed as such in some places online). Excellent location close to the Railway Station, and within in enjoyable walking distance of the markets and the tourist attractions in the centre of the enjoyable compact tropical city. Good hotel services including a very well-maintained pool. Rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. The reception area could do with some redesign and improved lighting to create a stronger sense of welcome. Especially enjoyable was the main restaurant under the control of the restaurant manager, Sam. A real professional monitoring all dishes leaving the open kitchen and expertly guiding all the friendly floor staff team. The meals were excellent with a great chef leading the kitchen. Generally, the spiciness of the meals was toned down a bit for Western tastes, but it was simple to ask dishes be cooked “as the locals would like, as your mother would cook.”

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the North Gate Hotel in Jaffna, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The customer service was truly amazing, setting a high standard for hospitality. My mom requires wheelchair assistance, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure her comfort and ease throughout our stay and especially as she entered and exited the building. Their kindness and attentiveness made a significant difference in our stay. The hotel's location is unbeatable, situated right in the heart of Jaffna. This central location made it incredibly convenient for us to explore the many attractions and landmarks the city has to offer. Whether we were heading out for a day of sightseeing or just a quick trip to the market, everything was within easy reach. The dining options at North Gate Hotel are superb. The in-house restaurant serves delicious food, and there's another fantastic restaurant/bar called Machang just behind the hotel. This gave us two excellent choices for meals, even late at night, ensuring we never had to worry about finding a place to eat. Cleanliness is clearly a priority at North Gate Hotel. The entire premises were spotless, making our stay comfortable and pleasant. Special thanks to Vinothkumar from housekeeping, who ensured our room was impeccably maintained with great care and attention to detail. The front desk staff deserves a special mention for their excellent service. Jeeva, Sathees, Kowshik, Thusha, Praveen, Prasanna, and the Front Office Manager Gopinath were all incredibly helpful and professional. Their warm welcome and readiness to assist with any request truly enhanced our experience. Overall, North Gate Hotel in Jaffna provided us with a memorable stay, combining excellent service, great food, a prime location, and immaculate cleanliness. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Jaffna—you won’t be disappointed!

We arrived around 1pm and check in want fine. However the room had clogged shower and sink which ment We could not Get ready for dinner reservasions. There were no other Roma available and We had to wait 2h+ for it to be fixed. We askes for a possible discount for the day and the staff informed us that they will Get back to us. Never heard anything! During checkout they informed us that NO DISCOUNT IS POSSIBLE AT ALL.

This is our second time staying at North Gate Hotel and it definitely will not be our last. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at North Gate Hotel and can not fault it one bit. All of the staff members (reception team, waiters, domestics team) contributed greatly to making our stay smooth and enjoyable. They attended to all our needs promptly and with smiles on their faces. The staff were all so warm and welcoming and we can’t thank them enough for their exceptional service. We were greeted by Sam when we came down to the restaurant for breakfast on a daily basis. He was very attentive, friendly and even offered us advice on places to visit whilst in Jaffna. The variety and quality of the food options available at the breakfast buffet breakfast were fantastic and it all tasted just as good as it looked! I will not hesitate to recommend North Gate hotel to anyone planning to visit Jaffna. 10/10 experience.

Wonderful Stay in the Northern Capital of SriLanka. Nice and Clean Rooms with Tasty and Big spread of Authentic dishes also the helpful staff made our stay very comfortable. The rooms are big and spacious. Food was great. A quick check in process.

Even though the hotel is situated in the town of Jaffna, the environment is so calm. And famous travel destinations such as Nallur Temple can be reached within few minutes. Rooms are clean and well organised. Staff is very helpful and fluent in English. So communication is not difficult. Food is good and prices are not very high.

I recently stayed at this hotel for the second time over the past five days. The service provided by the front desk, room service, and restaurant staff was exceptional—they were all well-presented, friendly, and attentive. The restaurant offered exceptional traditional Jaffna style food, which brought back cherished childhood memories for us. The management staff deserves special praise for maintaining high spirits and ensuring that the staff consistently deliver top-notch service. We look forward to returning on our next visit.
