No need to be nervous about this place. All the poor reviews are from years ago before the remodeling. Any more recent reviews are quite good, including mine. I did have two issues. One, in the room it says you must put a thing on your door saying you want it cleaned, or else they won’t clean your room. I put this on my door after the first night. My room didn’t get cleaned until the third day in the late afternoon, and I left the next morning. Two, the second night I was sleeping at 2:30 AM there was a loud noise coming from between the ceiling on the floor I was on and floor of the floor above me. Def couldn’t sleep through it and it was like this for like 20 minutes. And I wasn’t the only person in the hallway investing this sound. I will say overall it’s a place worth staying. People are very nice, and the breakfast is good.

The Muthu hotel is a 5-minute walk from the Oban train station, the hotel is 100 years old, not very new, but the location is perfect, better than any other hotel location in Oban, firstly, it is not far from the train station, secondly, the hotel can look at both the hill across the street and the right side of the sea, thirdly, the hotel is only 1-minute walk from Oban's famous restaurant, EE-USK. The rooms directly across from the marina look out over Oban Bay. The hotel lobby is beautifully decorated, and its casual style relaxes people, The hotel soundproofing is slightly worse. Occasionally, you can hear the floor sound of walking upstairs, but it does not affect the rest; also, please rest assured! This is my own personal experience. The staff here are all amiable, and I was very impressed. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone! This place will leave you with great memories of your trip!

Stayed here for 2 nights,it was beautiful,spotless clean,staff very friendly,hard working,and polite,room view was superb,breakfast lively,especially the poached eggs,dinner lovely,piping hot,and presented beautifully,will definetly return,and recommend

Our first room was set up for three with a large fold out chair that made a single bed. This gave us no room to get into the double bed so we folded it back up because we did not need the extra bed. When we folded it up, we found glops of dust and dirt and a discarded lip balm. Clearly cleaning wasn't a priority. When we returned from dinner, we could smell food doors from outside and hear a noise like a generator. We requested a different room and, fortunately, there was one available. In this second room, there was no air conditioning, no fan, and the windows did not open. It was very stuffy and uncomfortable. The building is old with rambling corridors. The whole place is unappealing.

Absolute disgusting service, first of all nobody at the fest when needed assistance after 40minutes wait someone arrived a women looking all flustered and out of breath, dunno what for she clearly didn’t rush! Never the less. Get into the room and there was used tampon on the bathroom floor thick brown hairs in the bed. Dust on the cups the lamp was broken. No fan in the room for a hot day like this. And I’m sure it was human poop smeared across the toiled would have been better off sleeping in a tent

The hotel is in the referb stage. So it's not perfect & there is work going on at the moment. But they are working hard to get this finished. The room I stayed in was large & comfortable the bathroom was well fitted. The room could of done with a fridge. The TV reception wasn't great but the WiFi speed was excellent. The staff were brilliant around the hotel, in the restaurant, & at reception. The chef was brilliant his breakfasts were good but dinner at night was superb.

This beautifully refurbished hotel is excellent. Dimps and her team were smart, professional and charming. The bar and restaurant were very reasonably priced and the overall cost offered very good value for money. It is located just metres from the Marina so if you sail into Oban this is perfect. I would definitely go back.

We were aware that this hotel had been refurbished however we were so impressed with the reception area bar and restaurant as the design and furnishings were of a high standard.We booked a bay view room and again we were not disappointed.All furniture and fittings were new and everything was spotless.The rainfall shower in bathroom was amazing We opted for bed and breakfast and all breakfasts were cooked to order and there was a good selection of cereal and pastries also cooked meats cheeses and fruit.The hotel manager was very kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble!! All the staff we met were friendly and polite We feel that this hotel is underrated and we feel anyone visiting Oban should give this hotel a try and we think it offers great value for money
