Parador El Hierro - Valverde

This is an ideal location for a quiet holiday with beautiful sea views on a peaceful small Canary Island.

The best and worst of hotels! Very attractive hotel with friendly staff. The restaurant, sadly, is unable to cope when busy. One evening we waited well over an hour for a first course and it was down hill from there. Other guests seemed very disappointed, too. The problem is that the hotel caters for large groups and other guests are sacrificed for the needs of the group. The is understandable but not acceptable. My advice is have a full lunch away from the hotel and to purchase a supermarket supper to eat in your hotel room. I have no criticism of the staff, who try very hard. Their predicament is impossible.

The Paradores are all different and yet there is a consistency in service, quality, and presentation that is guaranteed. In El Hierro, you will find peace and quiet to the accompaniment of the sea splashing gently on the shore, a shaded tree-lined terrace to pass the hours, and a quality restaurant and friendly bar service. There is nothing to complain of here. Quiet competence and friendliness. The El Hierro Parador is the Canary Islands in a nutshell ... but it's very very far from your usual tourist trap!

I will just say the Parador grounds will, without doubt, soon need serious reconstruction. The sea will destroy much of it within a short time. As a volcanic geomorphologist, I unfortunately know this well.

It is the N-time we have been there. It is the acme of the relax, of contact with nature. Quiet, isolated, only the sea makes a slight noise that relaxes our overwrought nerves. Ideal. Food is superb and all the staff are extremely helpful. Of course it depends upon you that you feel isolated or feel that 'this is exactly what I was looking for'

We stayed for a week and what a find. El Hierro was fabulous as was the hotel. We have been to La Gomera on numerous occasions but never to El Hierro. It was a challenge to get here involving two flights, a taxi transfer between airports and a hire car to the hotel. We arrived very tired but were welcomed in by Joanna, who was excellent throughout our week's stay. She was always willing to chat and always welcomed us back each day and asked us where we had been. The hotel location was excellent, we fell asleep each night to the sound of crashing waves. The bathroom could do with some updating and parts of the hotel could do with some tlc. The food was very good although the menu never changed throughout the week we were there. Overall everything was great and we had a wonderful holiday😃😃😃
