La Maison Rabelais

The hotel looks brand new, is really well kept, well clean and the service and the staff are very professional and friendly. The location of the hotel is great, right in the center of Amboise, and the parking is very convenient. Also the breakfast is great. The room was really good, great large comfortable bed. The only odd thing was that the hotel blocked 200 euros as a deposit in my credit card, as if I was renting a car, never saw this before in my multiple years of travelling.

Went for one night, was offered the handicapped room, which is a box at the beginning of the reception with one small window. The reception guy understood that this was not a good idea and kindly changed me to a unit on the side of the hotel, which in itself would be great, but you need to keep the curtains closed as everybody can see you. No seating outside the little terrace, no place to hang your pool towels inside, or anything else, like a bag to hang up to. The water in the shower did not drain very well, which means it was overflowing in the rest of the bathroom. The window in the bedroom is a not-see-throu one, but very light in the morning, you cannot leave it open to get fresh air. I cannot imagine when it is 30c. The tv is too small for a unit like this and no tv in the bedroom . Breakfast is very limited, not enough for the amount of people, the reception guy was on his own to do both) needed to run up and down (although there were other people present). Parking paid (read small print, at 15 Euro per day), there is a parking right across, if you find space, it seems free. Staff is friendly and they cannot do much, but small things need to improve. This seems to be too pricey for what it is. Location is good, as it is close to everything. Do not forget to go to the market on the river and have a lunch or diner at the Guingette at the same place at the market, best location and excellent food, with a beautiful view.

Je n’ai jamais été autant déçue, si je récapitule mes 5 dernières années de voyage. - la chambre : très médiocre (équivalent aux grosses chaînes) : pas de savon dans la chambre pour se laver les mains, une douche défectueuse, des rideaux non occultants - cerise sur le gâteau : le stationnement dans la rue est gratuit et aisé (nous sommes en basse saison). La première question du réceptionniste avant de dire bonjour est de savoir si nous allons bien régler les 15 euros du parking de l’hôtel. Enfin Pour un 4 étoiles, il me voit avec mes valises et me montre les différentes cages d’escaliers pour accéder à ma chambre. Je me suis même demandée s’il y avait un ascenseurs, mais oui il y en a un; et je me suis débrouillée toute seule : AUCUN SERVICE - histoire de gâcher un petit peu plus une expérience à oublier, l’alarme à incendie a gâché un sommeil saccadé à même pas 8h du matin, obligeant les clients à descendre pour apprendre une mauvaise une manipulation.
