Comfort Suites Independence - Kansas City

Another Comfort Suites on our 2 week vacation and it did not disappoint. Comfortable beds, nice interior decor, good breakfast and great staff. We recommend this motel to anyone wanting a good experience in Independence, Mo. Plenty of parking even for Gold members.

We booked this room after driving all day. When we entered our non-smoking 2 queen suite it was obvious it had been smoked in. The stench made the back of my throat sore. The hotel was full and no discount would have been enough to live with that smell. We were first told "We don't have a way to tell if its been smoked in" Then we got to the we knew it had been smoked in but didn't want to take it out of inventory. So though they knew it was nasty smelling they didn't want to lose the revenue for the room as it should not have been available to be reserved. We got back in our car and drove down the road until we found another room. As most hotels in the area were full this took us some time to accomplish. I would not trust the management or staff at this hotel to behave in an appropriate manner when confronted with an inconvenient situation.

I usually give places the benefit of the doubt but this will not be the case here. We had a non-refundable reservation (made that day on the road). When I stepped up to the counter to check in I saw a sign saying that the pool and hot tub were out of service. When I did my search for a hotel on several different websites (including the Choice Hotels website) I specifically asked for pool, hot tub and gym. The sign on the desk and on the door to the pool area looked to be very old!! So if they had been out of of service for a while I would expect that there is some form of warning for this. But maybe that is too much to ask. Check in was quick and easy desk clerk friendly. While looking for the gym I found the ice machine by gym was also out of service. Again all of the sign’s look like they have been there for quite a while!. Our room was very large and clean. However, 2 of the ceiling lights (not sure if CFL or LED) buzzed loudly every time they were turned on. My wife went to the gym in the morning but treadmill didn’t work. We didn’t do breakfast in the morning. It did not look so great. There was plain oatmeal but nothing to put in it. Another annoyance was that the fridge in the room froze our veggies but NOT our ice packs!! So that is $15 lost!! I will add that this is the second Choice hotel that we have stayed in that had an out of service pool without putting that information on websites.

I have written to Choice Hotels corporate about my experience at this hotel. The room we had, 111, was a “king suite” and absolutely the most disgusting room we have ever had. I took photos (included) and went back to the front desk to let them know. The lady didn’t want to see the pictures, didn’t apologize and said the hotel was full except for a queen room on the 3rd floor. She did not offer to change the room rate and did not offer to send housecleaning. We ended up staying in room 111 not knowing what condition the queen room would be in (she did not off for us to view it first). She started helping another customer and dismissed me saying it will be figured out. NOTHING HAPPENED. No one came to clean the room, no one called to follow up, nothing. When we checked out Sunday, there was a dog barking behind the front desk. I rang the bell and waited, no one came so I left the room key cards and we left. I have not received a receipt or any correspondence. Between the nastiness of the room and the terrible service my advice is to find another hotel in the area.

We came to this area for a concert and since we are Choice Members, we decided to give this hotel a shot. When we first got there, it took a little while to check in but I think the person checking in before us was having an issue. The staff was very friendly and the lobby seemed well maintained. The pool wasn’t open due to maintenance but those things happen. Our room had a musty odor when we arrived but I just turned the air down and by the time we returned, the smell was gone. The mattresses are firm, which I like. We had no issues with hot water. Their breakfast room was a good size, the staff was super nice and the food was good. All in all, it was a nice place and we enjoyed our stay.

This is a modern and well maintained hotel near I-70 and the hockey arena. Lots of restaurants in the area. A perfectly good option in the Independence area. No issues with service or the room. Recommended

This hotel must be understaffed. We did not receive maid/room service after our first night stay- I had to go get my own towels for day 2. Since it was a few days before July 4th our rate was crazy high, more than $50 per night than normal. The whole Independence area seemed to be a bit neglected but this hotel block in particular was bothersome. We paid $189 + tax per night and it was definitely not worth that rate. The only reason we agreed to the price at booking was because this hotel was a few miles away from the wedding venue, and we thought my daughter needed to be close to the others in the wedding party. I would recommend staying elsewhere.

Comfort Suites was great choice for an overnight stay in Independence. The staff was friendly, and the grounds were quiet. Our room was very clean and was very up to date. The room had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. It is located in a very nice area which has many restaurant choices. The breakfast was outstanding! It offered omelets, sausage, cereal, bagels, and biscuits and gravy. They also had a waffle maker. I will definitely stay here if I should venture back to Independence.

This hotel was very quiet and comfortable. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast could have been improved as no fruit, yogurt, or oatmeal available. Bread choices were skim with no bagels or English muffins offered. A few minor changes and this would rate one more star.
