Mare Blue Hotel

I was actually there in October 2023. The hotel is located near Lerapetra on the beach shore. The rooms are in order. There is a swimming pool for children. The food is delicious. Only with all inclusive was the poor choice of alcoholic beverages. Next to it are several souvenir shops, car rental points. You need to drive to the sights of Crete (they are all further). Water activities can be ordered on the beach.

In general I have to said it was very good. Hotel - who is expecting design hotel will be surely dissapointed, but anyvay rooms was clean and normaly furnished. Cleaning was every day so as changing towels. Beach towels you could change also everyday or not as you want - but these was up to anyone. Restaurant /bar /food - these was totally 5* food was excelent every day and really a lot of variations staff there was also excellend and very nice that was the same in a bars - there I would praise all of them. Beach and the see - was also very nice /clean and I was very happy first two days we have got really nice and than come the storms and was a bigger waves - but it has nothing to do with hotel and beach :) negative - oly what i would tell negative - we could not stay in a rooms longer anyway we would like to pay for it - we have to leave at 12 but our bus was leaving hotel nearly at 20 - they have said they are totally full, but anyway in my view there should be obtion anyway you travel with kids you would appriciate some private space where you can take shower or change clothes or make a rest. Despite this fact i can imagine I would spend holiday in this resort again

The hotel would need a complete renovation, especially the bathrooms in the rooms were appalling, the air conditioning in the rooms did not cool much. The cleaning of the rooms once every two days is also not enough, because the toilet paper you use has to be thrown into a small basket in the bathroom, where the suction almost does not work at all. The food in the restaurant was almost unchanged and especially it was hot because the air conditioning did not work. There was a lack of sunbeds, so anyone who didn't put on a towel at 7 in the morning was just lying on the beach. And if by chance there was a deckchair left, it was out of order and you couldn't lie on it. A big positive was the beautifully clean sea. I would not return to the hotel.

Where to start with this one? Best way I can describe this place is a hotel that seems to be run on shoe string budget. The hotel, dinning room and the room are clean. The food is also very good and the staff are very pleasant on the whole. And they are doing there best with what they have to work with. We stayed in a family room that was clean. Although the sink was blocked on arrival and the back door didn’t lock. We did report the door which never got sorted and I ended up fixing it myself. The double bed was two single bed pushed together. I don’t think that’s good enough personally. There was one single bed and a camp style bed for the kids. Which caused argument as the camp style bed wasn’t comfortable. Wi-Fi doesn’t work either. The place needs more money putting in to make it worth the cost. The hotel itself is dated. No air conditioning in the dinning room which made eating feel like a sauna at times. The air conditioning in the rooms works well so they stay cool providing you have a spare key card to leave the electricity on. There are no other place to escape the heat. Little shade around the pool. There’s frame work around one side that would of had canvas covering it at point in the past. But long gone now. So very little shade. There are some parasols around the pool but not many. More on the beach to be fair. I do feel there should be somewhere the escape the heat, either that been a bar with air condition or a lounge room. There is lack of sun loungers around the pool and the beach. You’ve got to be on it early to reserve one as they go quickly. I’d say there just needs to be more on the beach and around the pool to accommodate for the amount of guests the hotel takes. Through the day there’s one bar on the beach that is manned by two staff so there’s generally a queue. There’s a bar at the pool which isn’t used at all. If you are spending a day at the pool you have to go to the beach bar to get a drink. It’s not too far but why the pool bar isn’t operational to half the queues and have available drinks at the pool is beyond me. Again down to working on a minimal staff budget I think. There’s a gym onsite which in the pictures online has a good amount of equipment. This was one reason we booked this place as I workout regularly at home and having the gym here was a massive plus to booking this place. But, on going to the gym I discovered the state of it. Two rough spin bikes, a tired cross trainer, a bench press machine that’s seen better days (no pin in the weights, just an old piece of metal as pictured) and a broken rowing machine with no handle. The gym seems to be more of an extension of the play ground for children as it’s not manned or controlled so people roam in freely. It does say the minimum age is 16 but nobody seems to follow that rule. There’s is a small playground for children but it’s very limited. The bar on the evening is ok but again under staffed. Very friendly staff, not really a 4 star, every where was a bit run down and tired looking. The outdoor gym was more of a token than a facility. Great location for access to the private beach. Food sustaining but not exciting, so we ate out in 3 local tavernas, which was inexpensive and good home cooking. Unfortunately 1.5 hours from the nearest airport but great for a quiet relaxing holiday for 2. We used a taxi transfer which worked well. A late flight which was delayed meant that we arrived at 2.00 am the first day, which meant it was a 6 day holiday.

Hotel deserves maximum 3*. It is very old hotel, everything is outdated. Sunbeds and umbrellas are all damaged, old, and not protecting from sun. Beach is clean and seawater is amazing- only reason why to come. Food is average, offer if good, but taste is average. Rooms are old and clean as much is possible. Hotel is max 3 *. Hotel stuff is kind and trying to do their best, but owner has to seriously think about investments in many ways.
