Overall, our stay at Almond Beach was fantastic. There were many positives, particularly the friendliness and dedication of the ground staff. They worked tirelessly to keep the resort clean and well-maintained, including clearing the shoreline each morning of sargassum that had accumulated overnight. Thanks to their efforts, the beach remained pristine throughout the day. Upon arrival, we were given a tour of the resort and our room, which was a thoughtful touch. Since we arrived on a Sunday—a notably quiet day in Hopkins—we took advantage of the free bike rentals to explore the village. Unfortunately, the rain cut our trip short. When we asked the reception team for recommendations on activities, dining options, and things to do in the area, we found their knowledge to be quite limited. It would have been great to speak with someone enthusiastic about Hopkins who could provide insights into local gems. That said, we enjoyed discovering the area on our own. We chose not to dine at the Paddle House restaurant, as the prices were quite steep, and an additional 10% resort fee, on top of the 12.5% tax, made it even less appealing. Instead, we ventured out and found great dining experiences while immersing ourselves in the local culture. However, we did try a pizza from the hotel’s restaurant, which was quite good. Our beachfront cottage was amazing. Being able to step directly onto the sand and hear the waves was truly special. There were always comfortable sun loungers available, and the room was well-equipped with everything we needed. The only downside was the weak shower pressure, which made washing long hair a challenge, especially with only tepid water. Getting to the village takes about 40 minutes on foot. While it’s a doable walk, the Belizean weather can change rapidly, so be prepared. On our first evening, we attempted the walk but got caught in a sudden storm. Fortunately, friendly locals offered us a lift, which was a lifesaver! The hotel can also connect you with a local taxi driver, Mike, who charges $5 USD per person each way. We initially wanted to cycle into the village at night, but the resort doesn’t allow bike rentals past 5 PM due to poor street lighting. This meant our only options were taking a taxi or renting a golf cart. Don’t feel obligated to use the resort tours, there are many tour companies in the village that would be happy to help. They can pick you up from the hotel and usually have a wider range of tours to do with locals running the tours! We did this and had a blast! Almond Beach is a quiet resort, with little activity past 9 PM. However, with on-site restaurants and bars, you have everything you need if you prefer to stay in. That said, we highly recommend venturing out to local restaurants, some of which are nearby and others in the village. Doing so allows you to experience Belizean culture, enjoy delicious food, and meet the friendly locals. Almond Beach offers a peaceful and scenic getaway,
