It was hard to leave this homestay and the Cham islands. We started in a homestay in a smaller town, further up the island. It was gorgeous there, but we couldn’t get comfortable. We moved back to Bai Lan, the town where the ferry comes in, and into Sunbay, and ended up staying 3 or 4 days. The rooms are so clean and comfortable. The front rooms have an amazing view of the whole harbour area, with the dock, basket boats, and fishing boats with the eyes painted on. People staying in the other rooms can still sit on the front patios for this amazing view. The restaurant had so much amazing food (loved the pineapple pancakes for breakfast and the crab hotpot for dinner!) and a lovely atmosphere with cute lights in the evening. There are restaurants all around, so it was a really nice area too stroll the harbour and find seafood or smoothies or anything else. And the fishing boats leave from two minutes away to go on fishing or snorkeling or sightseeing adventures. Mie and Duong organized our excursions for us, had someone pick us up to get us to the right boat, and even made a special one for us when we said we really wanted to snorkel at a further island called Hon Tai. We had already snorkeled at some other spots. Mie and Duong’s lovely lively sweet granddaughter, 5 years old, stays with them. I was travelling with my 6 year old son and he and her loved to play. We went to Bai song beach together, and Duong somehow found us all and motorbiked us home. My son and I loved going on little adventures in town with her. And when we my son and I wanted to go to the beach, Duong suggested Bai Bac (amazing) and Bai Xep (amazing), and generously suggested he motorbike us over rather than us renting because of the steep hills. This was so incredibly nice of him and helped us a lot. He even came back and picked us up when we were ready to leave. When we asked him and his granddaughter if they’d like to join us for the beach, they joined and we loved their company. Duong waits on all the tables at dinner, keeping everybody happy, and has great English. He is honestly the nicest guy, walked us to the dock and waved us off on the last day, and it was sad to leave. I loved our stay here, and I’m so so glad we stayed several days on the Cham islands and found SunBay. This family and place will have a place in my heart forever.
