The food was significantly below standard. The breakfasts were certainly better than dinner but there was a scarcity mentality - i.e. the fruit on the buffet was not nearly enough for everybody; apart from one day where there was mini-breakfast-buffet, there was no choice on the hot breakfast (no eggs served as the standard, mostly french toast or pancakes, toast was not even available). The quality of the food at dinner was totally substandard - i.e. bobotie not made the right way with weird sambals drenched in some BBQ sauce and teaspoon fulls of veg (not even a mouthful), a South African braai with burnt chicken kebab (carcenogenic)/very dry burnt pork chops without any red meat in sight, the excess of the previous night served for breakfast (sausages and corn). Salads were promised but very disappointing. More was expected for the price. However, the real friendliness of the hosts made up for us as South Africans as we felt very at home in the culture. I am not sure whether this would have provided similar compensation for the tourists.
