The Angel Hotel

Called in for breakfast, which was lovely. Hubby had eggs benedictine. The eggs were perfectly cooked. I had the veggie option which was lovely. Clean cutlery, lovely staff, wonderful atmosphere beautiful log fire burning. Pot of tea made 5 cups well worth the money. Would definitely recommend and definitely go again.

This was a return visit for my wife and me, this time staying for a week. We chose The Angel so that we could split meals between their restaurant and The Walnut Tree. They arranged everything, including the complimentary taxi when we dined at The Walnut. Staff were consistently helpful and friendly. Food in the restaurant was good, with the kitchen demonstrating a high level of cooking expertise, although inevitably having to work within budget limitations, as might be expected of any hotel. The difference in quality when compared to The Walnut Tree was obvious, but then they were not charging Michelin Star prices, so understandable. I did feel that the mark-up on wine was higher than I would expect, usually coming in at 3.5 - 4 times lowest retail price, compared with 2.5 - 3 for most pubs and restaurants. For example, a Château Caronne Ste-Gemme 2018, Haut-Médoc is £16.99 from Majestic (mix 6 price), but £60 in their restaurant. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and expect to return.

Had a brilliant family Sunday lunch at the Angel. Pure quality food, impeccable service and everything really nice. Friendly and flexible and really professional and everything enjoyable and nice. The reception and waitstaff responsive, nice and efficient. The wine glasses clean and other details immaculate. Thank you for a special day.

Excellent stay in a very charming hotel. High professional personnel from the reception to the restaurant and to the room service. Very good parking space and well managed though smart reservation. A pleasure to discover the region and have the Angel Hotel as base.

Lovely hotel right in the centre of town. There is a car park behind the hotel and you can reserve a designated stop. There is a sign with your name and dates you are staying. There will still be places if you choose not to do this. But is nice to know you can go out and come back to a spot. There is also a big car park across the road. Room was lovely. There is a lift to get you up stairs. We ate in the restaurant (worth booking in advance) and the food was nice, I did question where the peas and beans where on my beef but it part of the sauce so don’t expect a load of peas. Lovely products in the bathroom. Breakfast was lovely and a big cooked breakfast. Access wise you can pull up in front of the hotel in the pedestrianised bit and there is one step then use the lift, however if you use the car park you go down a slope and then four steps down to the courtyard and then into the hotel. Lift is by the courtyard. So I’d check in first then bring the luggage up to the room. Abergavenny has a pedestrianised centre, lots of shops, coffee places and hat shops. Nice stroll round town. The market place was lovely. We also went on the Breacon Mountain Railway which was fun. We ate on Saturday at the Walnut Tree ( book in advance) its sister restaurant out of town which is worth a visit and hotel can arrange a taxi.

I was lucky enough to have an absolutely fantastic afternoon tea with family for my 40th birthday at The Angel, My husband booked the cellar and it’s truly beautiful. The staff could not do enough for us all, always making sure we had enough food and drink, they brought me a cake with candles and even sang happy birthday to me too, and just this week my husband received a hand written card from them thanking him for booking the cellar for my birthday! They have a tv in the cellar which my sister organised a photo slideshow for me but turned up with the wrong cable, lucky my husband brought the right one with him later but the staff were ready to go to Argos to buy us one! I could not recommend The Angel enough, exquisite food and drink - a real treat, we’ve been once before for a wedding present and it has always remained our favourite place to have afternoon tea. I look forward to dining there again soon!

I rarely give five stars but this was worth it. The room was very comfortable, even though the layout upstairs is that of a 19th century coaching inn. Food in the hotel is very good. They arrange for there to be a free taxi service to and from Walnut Tree if you want the highly recommended dinner there. The staff are all very good. The staff could not have been kinder and more helpful. It was our first time post-covid of having a real treat away for a week end, and we hope to repeat soon.

An extremely lovely hotel that is well managed and brilliantly maintained. We had a lovely "mews" bedroom which was extremely comfortable, nice bathroom and loads of tea/coffee and home baked shortbread, which was replenished daily. The staff are fantastic and extremely helpful. We arranged a car space for the 3 days we were there and on arrival our name was on a large sign, which was great. Breakfast options are amazing - you must try the porridge plus Berry Smoothie and so much more. Evening meals were great too. Having been in the events/hospitality for most of my life - I really found this hotel to be welcoming and somewhere you'd like to stay. Thank you to everybody for looking after us. I'd highly recommend this hotel if you are in the area.

The Angel continues to do what it has done for many years and do it very well. Friendly and knowledgeable staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. Spacious rooms with character, immensely comfortable beds - if breakfast was not so good it would be hard to leave my bed - and attention to detail like the fresh ground coffee in the room. A great location, central to the town yet even the front bedrooms are quiet - for Abergavenny itself of for exploring the surrounding area which is packed full of interest. The close link with the Walnut Tree makes the choice of where to eat really difficult.
