Horse and Hound Country Inn

We has a very unpleasant experience at this pub/restaurant! Booked for 9 of us in advance and asked while on the phone if they did Sunday Roast (as advertised on their website). “Yes we do” was the answer. When we arrived there was no greeting. We found our own way to the table with a reserved sign. Staff were behind the bar and seemed preoccupied bu the restaurant wasn’t busy. A young waitress took our drinks order and having checked the menu and “specials” chalkboard, there was no Sunday Roast visible. We asked if Sunday Roast was available and she said she would ask the kitchen. She didn’t return and another young waitress came to take food order. Again we asked if Sunday Roast was available and again this waitress said she would have to ask the kitchen. On her return she told us “ Yes, there is a roast” but no further information. When she was asked “ what is it?”, she literally huffed and said “ I’ll ask them” and away she went again. Finally, we were told it was pork and then we asked for a few minutes to look at menu again. Two of our drinks arrived and were literally slapped on the table and the waitress said “pass these to whoever ordered them”. This was the final straw. We decided to leave and one of our party spoke to the manager to let him know why we were leaving. Although we never touched the drinks we said we’d pay for the drinks poured and he duly charged us!!! This must be the worst service we have ever experienced. Would never go there again.

We stayed at this Country Inn for 2 nights . We found the checking in process unwelcoming . I booked 2 deluxe rooms however Room 5 was very small and basic not even a wardrobe and the toilet you had to pump to get it to work the shower was ok but could have been cleaner. There was a mug under the radiator I assume for a leak as the mug had a rust mark on it Room 2 was slightly better decorated. I did speak to the proprietor about the room and his remark was “It’s a 300year old building” I could not accept this as a reason for describing the room online as deluxe. The space where there is a chest of drawers could easily have been for a wardrobe The dinner food and service by the young ladies was good , breakfast also good ,thank you

Great bar and friendly staff. Such friendly genuine service from the bartenders. Overall fun jaunt out. We had some food in the bar and it was delicious. The only criticism is it was abit warm, the fire was going all evening. Music was on later in the evening which made improved the atmosphere and made it more fun.
