A quintessential budget Hanoi hotel. First challenge is finding it being at the end of an alley obscured by foliage. Your taxi will not be able to get down the road off which the alley to the hotel is located so you'll have a short walk. For info the alley is located opposite Au Lac restaurant. Our room was Cinnamon on the 3rd floor, massive room with a double and single bed. Unquestionably in need of some smartening up, no view unfortunately, I could have reached through the window and touched the building next door. There is no lift for guests so consider this if you have mobility issues. Our stay was broken by a Halong Bay overnight cruise but Michael kept the unneeded luggage safely while we were away. Michael also arranged a transfer to Halong Bay, something I had not considered when booking, I'd assumed it would be a short grab taxi to a nearby dock however it takes around 2.5Hrs to get there. Breakfast is a simple affair, tea/coffee/juice toast, preserves, fruits and a 'how do you like your eggs' menu or Pho (noodle soup). The weather was cold while we were there, unusually so apparently, so-much-so we had to go out and buy knock-off North Face coats, without heating the breakfast area was freezing. Not an issue in the bedroom as the aircon has a heat function which we made good use of. WiFi is excellent, no issue hooking up the firestick for a late night movie stream. However the room is big so the small (by modern standards) TV on the opposite wall is about the same size as a mobile phone at arm's length. Location is superb, smack in the middle of the old quarter where, as a tourist, you want to be. Excellent budget hotel in need of some modernisation. 4 stars.
