We stayed at the hotel in mid to late June while we were visiting family in the area and taking various day trips to Glasgow and other places. We flew into Edinburgh and drove to Greenock, where the staff let us check in early for a fee. The hotel is definitely a decent 3 to 4 star accommodation. The building is dated, but the rooms were very clean. You can open the windows for ventilation. The bathroom space is very restricted. In our room you have to reach behind in order to find the bog roll. I can't say enough about the friendly staff. Always a treat to deal with. The front door is PIN access for guest convenience. The entire area has a lot of available free parking. The outstanding aspect about the Gin House is the location. You are situated between the Beacon Arts Centre and Police HQ. You can sit on the Beacon café terrace and watch the Clyde go by. The cops mean that the overnight parking is secure. You can walk into town in most directions and find grocery stores, pubs, takeaway and restaurants. The railway station is less than 5 minutes away on foot. The Gourock ferries are nearby, too. We took advantage of the Scotrail service to visit Glasgow for the day with a subway day pass. We were located less than 15 minutes from family in the area. We recommend Tail of the Bank and The James Watt for meals. The hotel also has a wee pub and a bar/lounge. But with the police always nearby there was no excessive noise outside, and the music never interrupted our sleep inside the hotel. At the beginning of our stay there was a continental breakfast every morning. Just before we moved on they introduced a cooked breakfast menu. I definitely would recommend that you stay here simply because of the friendly and courteous staff, the cleanliness of the rooms and the location so close to all amenities.
