Inn on the Lake by Innkeeper's Collection

Amazing nights stay at the Inn on the Lake- great location for Godalming town centre as only 10 minute walk into town but it has a very secluded feel. Our room was overlooking the garden which was very pretty and extremely peaceful. Bed was super comfortable and room was modern and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicious- myself and my partner would come back just for the breakfast! Definitely will be making a return visit :)

The room was ready when we checked in at 12:15 which we really appreciated. The room was ok with a nice big bed but the decor was very dark. The breakfast was very disappointing. It was set out without chaffing dishes to keep it warm so it was cold by the time I ate it. The selection did not include pastries just full English. There were no specialty coffees on offer just Kenco filter.

Been looking for a base near Guildford as I’m down every month. Stayed two nights in October which was perfect. Returned this week, not so perfect. Firstly, the rooms are exceptional standard and very comfortable. Evening meal, sat in restaurant part, starter and main course were fantastic. Food is really good here. Staff very attentive and customer service of a high standard. Now for an improvement point. Came down at 7am for breakfast and the lady on duty was a female version of Basil Fawlty! I asked where to sit in bar or restaurant, abruptly told “yes in here, in here”, which really shocked me. I thought fire with fire “Ok Ok”. “Take a menu and order at bar” I went to order off same lady and asked for “2 poached eggs on toast” “Scrambled eggs on toast” she replied” “No, poached eggs please….” “Wait a minute I’m sorting the till out” in a rude response Breakfast arrived, 2 poached eggs were in a ramekin dish swimming in vinegar water. Dried up stale toast on side Eggs were inedible. Never been served poached eggs like this before. Top tip……drain and pat dry before serving and why serve in a ramekin dish? Ate toast n sausage I thankfully ordered Went to check out. Complained about eggs and was told “kitchen always serve that way” muted apology Mrs fawlty gave me my bill and said “room 12 has left the building” The bizarre experience at breakfast has tarnished the other great points about this hotel and has put me off staying again purely as I was made to feel uncomfortable by Sybil that morning!
