Hotel Històric

If I got the option, I would give this Hotel 10 stars! Wonderful service. Great Bed/bathroom. It is located in the middle of Historic Girona and near great shops/restaurants. We are definitely coming back here again when we come to Girona!!

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel arranged a taxi for us from the airport and it was very well organised, the taxi dropped us in the square nearby and directed us to walk a short way to the front of the hotel. I can imagine it’s difficult to find if driving yourself. On arrival, we were let in the front door and walked to the front desk. There was a man and a woman, I believe to be the owners, and they didn’t even look up when we came in. They were silent as they checked us in and asked us to pay immediately. We needed WiFi to sort out our Monzo account, but they refused to let us use the WiFi in reception? We paid with a different card and they showed us to the lift to room 208, reminding us not to use the WiFi until we were in the room. The room itself was spacious, the bed was big and comfortable, the balcony was small but looked over the front of the hotel where it was quiet. The bathroom was nice and had a modern shower. The room was cleaned daily which was great. I loved the decor in the room, keeping traditional aspects such as the stone walls and light shades but with modern twists to it. Unfortunately, the couple didn’t really acknowledge our presence the whole time we were there, and whilst we didn’t talk to them a huge amount, when we did it seemed a little rushed and I never felt very welcome. There were never any suggestions or recommendations, or even a smile as we walked in and out. We asked for an umbrella once and this was refused immediately. We can’t comment on breakfast as we didn’t eat here - we decided to try out the many fab places to eat in Girona instead. We were going to have breakfast on the day of our flight home however breakfast is 8:30-10:30am which seems late for hotel breakfasts, and meant we couldn’t fit it in before our taxi at 9am. The location was perfect and very central to a lot of places, but up a lot of steps / hills so you would need to stay elsewhere if you had any mobility issues. Overall, the stay was comfortable and clean but the staff were not as friendly or welcoming as I’m used to in a 4 star hotel. I would rate this 3 stars, as nothing major stood out to me.

Finding the hotel by car was a disaster. GPS couldn't get us there and we drove round and round for almost an hour. I called the hotel three times and I still didn't understand how to find it. But... the GREAT service we were to receive started when the owner asked where we were, told us to wait for him. and he would meet us there. He got in the car with us and we then arrived at this special, small hotel. The Historic Hotel is a very small, beautifully appointed hotel. The room was small but very quiet. The bed was outstanding as were the pillows. The owners run the hotel and are there all of the time. They are kind and willing to share their knowledge of the special city where they live. They provide a wonderful breakfast buffet in the hotel with an additional charge. We ate breakfast there every morning before we headed out for the day. Of interest is the fact that biker Lance Armstrong spent three months living at the hotel.
