NH Gijon

We had a wonderful one week stay at NH Gijon. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially Henar on Reception and Ermis in the Breakfast bar. The hotel has great facilities with the roof top pool, a bar and restaurant and THE most delicious breakfast selection. The room was very comfortable and clean and the bathroom was generously stocked with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. It's ideally located for the beach, a beautiful park and the town. I would recommend it to everyone.

All fine. Perhaps in the reception better knowledge of the English language would be called for - though they understood Italian, so no problem for me. I like hotels that enable making a cup of tea or coffee in the hotel room, which then is a further proposal for an improvement.

Spent a long weekend here in late May 2023. We flew into Asturias airport and got the hourly bus service to the main Gijon bus station- from there it was a 30-minute walk to the hotel (though we discovered after a few days there are a number of local buses we could use). We checked in around 4:30pm and within five minutes of arriving were in our room. As with other NH Hotels we have stayed in it was clean and modern, and with an impressive bathroom. As we have experienced in other hotels in Spain there were no tea and coffee-making facilities in the room (does the country have a law against this?), but there was a fridge which we made use of. The hotel has a rooftop pool and terrace, and as the weather during our stay was good we tried to make use of it. However the door was locked and when we asked at reception were told if was out of season and it is only used in July and August. We were then rather surprised on the Sunday evening of our stay to see it was being used by a local political party for their election night party (Spain was holding regional elections during our time there). We were staying on room-only rate and were glad we did this. The hotel is located next to the Playa de San Lorenzo and as a result there are a lot of cafes, bars and restaurants nearby. Particular mention should be made of Cafeteria Biarritz where we had breakfast each day- great choice and very reasonable prices. During the stay we used Playa de San Lorenzo and also visited a couple of other beaches- Playa de Pennarubia which is about an hours walk away and Playa Serin which was a 20-minute bus ride. We also visited Oviedo by train- the station is on the other side of town to the hotel so to get there requires a bus or taxi. Generally we were pleased with our stay- it is not the most exciting place to stay but for a short visit to Gijon it is well located and offers a pleasant place to base yourself when visiting the city.

The place is a standard NH hotel The rooms are designed in brown colours - relatively unappealing. The personnel at the reception is somehow tired, could be more generous with the smiles. The bathroom needs cleaning with VINEGAR - the cleaning staff should pay more attention to details.

My experience at this Hotel was better than expected. An impeccable modern Hotel with exquisite cleanliness, in front to the sea, access to restaurants, supermarkets and all kind of shops around. Very glad with all the staff, specially Laura and Elena. Looking forward to being back soon.

Gijón in general does not appear to cater to tourists but rather to spaniards and businessmen and women. The amenities at this hotel were basic and lacking the type of service we have been used to expect from this chain. There is a bar and also a restaurant but unless you are willing to wait until 8 p.m. for the bar and 8.30 p.m. for the restaurant you are out of luck. Though well situated near the beach, very few restaurants and bars offer service from an pearlier time. Breakfast is OK but not the best through that is where the friendliest staff is to be found.

We stayed in two rooms for five nights. Travelled with older parents. Location is great for those wanting to be next to beach! Our stay was wonderful. Hotel is clean and modern. Our rooms were just right, clean, beds, sheets and pillows were comfortable! We slept well. No allergies. I was worried about pet dander but felt well in rooms. Heads up to the room cleaning team! 👍 Friendly and helpful. Everyday after our outings we came back to a clean room, beds made wonderfully. Breakfast was nice but nothing extraordinary. More options and larger selection would have been nice: avocado, better coffee. Service was nice. Hotel value/price/Quality/ was good! We parked off street and had no problems. If you don’t find parking on side street there is a huge free parking lot a 100 meters away! One con is that there isn’t enough lighting in the rooms especially for older folks. We will definitely stay here again.

Second stay in this hotel, very good location. You can enjoy the "paseo" and the beach and you are not far from city center (20 min by foot). If you have to park..... it will be a little bit hectic..... Hotel carpark is expensive and, as the hotel is near the congress center, it will be sometimes complicated to get rid of your car.
