We stayed for 2 nights at the ship to celebrate my dad’s 80th. He loves his food and the reviews looked good for having a birthday meal there. We had a dog friendly room, and they can sometimes be a bit grotty, but no complaints here. Our modern room was spotless, the bed huge and amazingly comfy. Had tea & coffee with kettle but also a coffee/hot chocolate machine. Our dog got a welcome bag with a toy and treats! We booked breakfast as part of our stay and it is well worth the small extra cost. We had the Scottish breakfast, which is huge if you have everything, but was all eaten as it tasted amazing. Also had scrambled eggs & smoked salmon which was delicious - plenty of salmon! And there was toast, juices, yoghurts, fruits and cereal. Bar was well stocked and well behaved dogs were allowed in too. Evening meals were absolutely delicious and it’s worth a visit to the restaurant even if you aren’t staying there. Beef Sunday dinner was yummy (roast potatoes could have done with being crispier though) and for the birthday meal we all had the venison wellington which was so delicious. Starters were also lovely and the chessboard finished the meal of perfectly (could have done with a blue cheese though!). Staff were all very friendly, chatty and helped make the birthday stay a bit more memorable - have forgotten names but the waiter originally from Leeds and the waitress at breakfast who recommended beaches to visit were brilliant. Would highly recommend a visit here and we are hoping to have a return visit next year!
