James Place Inn Bed and Breakfast

The James Place Inn is such a gem! It is a beautiful home right in the heart of Freeport, but the best part is the incredibly warm hospitality from Bill and Mary Ann. They are so kind and the rooms are beautiful and cozy, and breakfast is wonderful (especially the scones!) I highly recommend this B&B for a quiet and cozy stay!

My wife and I had such an amazing stay! We stayed in the Pine Room which I would highly recommend. It was super roomy and cozy and had such a nice backyard deck where we saw and heard so much wildlife. Bill and Mary Ann are wonderful hosts and were super accommodating to all our needs. They also gave us some great recommendations and are super knowledgeable about the area. As far as breakfast, Bill is a wizard in the kitchen. Breakfast every morning was so amazing and kept us powered for our daily activities. All in all, James Place Inn was the perfect place for our first trip to Maine and we will definitely be back in the future.

I was thrilled to be supporting my local women’s basketball team (Smith College, Northampton MA) by attending the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight tournament (Smith won both games!) at Bowdoin College in Brunswick ME. It was such a delight finding James Place Inn to stay in Freeport and what a wonderful and warm welcome from the best innkeepers, Bill and Mary Ann! Both Bill and Mary Ann are genuinely caring and really made me feel at home. I stayed in the Pine Room, and enjoyed the coziness of the room and the toasty fireplace. Everything was clean, plenty of water for my water bottle refills, reliable Wi-Fi, and the breakfasts were delicious. I will definitely stay again and would highly recommend JPI to anyone else traveling to Freeport/Brunswick.

My husband and I recently spent a night here and we had a fantastic experience. We stayed in the Blue room and found it to be very charming and cozy. The owners Bill and Mary Ann were wonderful hosts. Bill picked us up at the train station to save us from having to carry luggage up a steep hill, and he made a delicious breakfast for us. The inn is in the perfect location for accessing the many shops and restaurants in Freeport. I highly recommend the James Place Inn, and we hope to stay there again in the near future!

We only stayed at The James Place Inn for one night in August 2024 in Freeport, ME. It is a really nice inn. The Blue Room was very nicely decorated and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. The inn is special also because the owner Bill and Mary Ann Hinko are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. Bill volunteered to pick us up, at the LL Bean Paddling Center outside Freeport, at the end of our canoe trip. Mary Ann volunteered to drive us to the Portland airport to pick up a rental car. She would have driven us for nothing, but we insisted on paying because she was saving us money and, as importantly, the inconvenience from having to try to get Uber or Lyft to pick us up. It was iffy if we would have been able to get Uber or Lyft to pick us up in Freeport without great cost and or in a timely manner. The inn is just a few minutes walk from Main Street, restaurants, LL Bean, and the outlet stores. We would have stayed at the inn longer if we had not been driving up to Acadia National Park. This is the place we will want to stay at when we visit Freeport again. Thank you Bill and Mary Ann for being such great hosts and nice to Jean, our friends with us, and me. You have a well deserved, great reputation for your hospitality.

This Inn was lovely. Maryann and Bill were great! We enjoyed the hot breakfast served each day and the rooms were beautiful. The location is great…just a 2 block walk to center of town where we shopped and dined. Nice low key location compared to the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor (the first part of our vacation). Easy drive to the Portland airport where we departed.
