La Kora

I loved this lodging in the lovely village of Toubacouta. It's not a fancy place, but the accommodations are better than basic, with private bathroom, hot water, mosquito netting and good air conditioning, plus some lovely art on the wall. The garden setting is beautiful. There is secure parking on the property. The staff was great and arranged for a very nice sunset piroque trip in the delta and mangroves. Breakfast was served on the porch outside my room, with excellent French bread baked in a wood-fired oven on the property. The bread arrived still warm, melting the butter as I spread it. I spent two nights here and really enjoyed the experience.

The accommodation is in separate 'bungalows' or chalets. It is good budget accommodation with mosquito nets, wide double beds and bathrooms (there was always hot running water during our stay although the pressure was variable), Each chalet has a veranda with table and chairs. The chalets are set in lovely gardens with birds flitting around. The breakfast (included) was excellent, offering bread baked on the premises (and the best baguettes I have tasted outside France), locally-made jam, processed cheese, tea and coffee. Other meals could be provided to order. There was an above-ground pool. However, what made this place so great was the friendliness and helpfulness of the people working there. The man in charge, Amadou, was a wonderful host and we left after four nights feeling as though we hade made a friend. This place is highly recommended.
