Fitzroy River Lodge

This is about the fourth time staying here and we both thought the numbers were down a bit to previous times. Arriving around 6.00pm we were concerned we wouldn't get a site but there weren't any issues. The service at reception is excellent, I think the prices are a bit high. There is everything here you would need, a restaurant, accommodation and fuel.

Thankfully just a one night stay in very tired basic accommodation. Bed was horrible and pillows worse. To get to your room, you walk down the smokers area, not pleasant. Staff friendly but restaurant staff not ready at dinner, they weren’t set up and the same for breakfast. People standing around waiting. If you’re in hospitality one would think they know what needs to be done by when for paying guests. This place good for a one night stop but then move on. It gets rowdy when locals start playing up.

We were initially given a very poor room - probably more suited to FIFO rather than tourists. We had to complain about the room before we were given a better room. A buffet breakfast would be useful. After a shaky start it ended up being a pleasant stay.

Family of 3 stayed in the Queen + single room. Rooms looked like they had an upgrade in the last 5 or so years, clean comfy beds and pillows. Ac worked well but the ceiling fan was wobbly and clunky. Room has a small fridge, tea and coffee facilities and bathroom has nice toiletries. Staff were helpful and courteous. Chef did a great job on the Katsu chicken poke bowl - all servings are large though pricey. Would be great to see more mid size and mid priced meals other than kids fried options. Pool was very cold - perhaps remove one shade to allow it a bit more heat. Diesel bowser on site and price is very competitive. Overall a good stay.

Arrived here after spending several nights in remote areas and thought I'd reconnect with the world. But the wifi was useless. And the television didn't work. I phoned reception but no answer. So I went to reception, and they sent me a Fijian guy who tried very hard for twenty minutes to get the television to work, but failed. This isn't the Ritz, but it's OK for a remote country hotel. The aircon and overhead fan worked well; it was clean (although the bathroom had a bit of a musty smell), and I slept well in a comfortable bed. No power points near beds. Erratic hot water in the shower. Lighting was dim. No face washers. Locked window couldn't be opened. The buffets at the restaurant were pretty good.

I booked a camping site online in May for one night in July, 2a, 2c paid $60, cancelled a week later and was told sorry no refund! I can understand a cancellation fee of say 25%, but to charge someone $60 for nothing is very disappointing. Enjoy my money you won’t see anymore of it!
