**** Stars for everything other than Breakfast. They can do a lot better for a paid breakfast buffet.

My stay was marred by several issues. The check-in was mediocre, and although the staff wasn’t unprofessional, they were far from welcoming. It was frustrating that their attitude only improved after recognizing my status. There was an evacuation of the property, revealing a lack of an emergency plan. We were outside for 45 minutes without any staff communication about what was happening or what to do. Even after the fire department left, no one addressed us to inform us it was safe to return. This incident will likely remind the management of who I am. I requested to speak with the General Manager (GM). My first question to her was, “Why is guest safety a joke?” I detailed the situation, from being outside without information to seeing people casually entering and exiting the property during the emergency without any guidance. During my conversation with the GM, a staff member interrupted, claiming she was outside and thought we were just standing there with our child. I informed her she didn’t appear to be staff, as she was chatting with a woman in regular clothes, whom I assumed was another guest. I had to call for maintenance several times because the TV kept restarting on its own and the refrigerator stopped working abruptly. Additionally, I mistakenly left some collegiate paraphernalia in the room. I was informed the room had been turned over, another guest had checked in, and nothing was reported to Lost and Found. The voicemail for Lost and Found was full, preventing me from leaving a message. When I called the front desk, I was instructed to go online and submit a request, despite all the issues I had already encountered. The concierge lounge was disappointing and should be shut down. There were more options available at a Residence Inn. The dessert offerings were a tray of overbaked, hard cookies in three flavors. There was no breakfast offering; it was part of the regular buffet. The cooler for the milk and yogurt wasn’t working properly, leaving the items warm. There were also label descriptions for items that weren’t available. I was only staying for the night before heading to the port for our cruise, which thankfully was amazing. I am unsure how or why MCR manages this property, but the staff, especially the GM, do not uphold the standards listed on your site, particularly Marriott standards. Additionally, no proper resolution was offered.

Do Not Shower Here! Currently under health warning for risk of legions disease. They do not tell you this and hide it in fine print. We booked by phone and they did not say anything. At 10:30 at night they said not to show and gave us this letter required by the department of health. They did not offer to compensate us or even give us bottles of water to brush with. See letter and corporate customer service number.

No mention of the hotel being remediated for legionnaires bacteria when booking made. There is signage in the lobby and an undated guest letter. Asked the front desk clerk about when the guest illness occurred and he indicated December 2023. There was no offer to rebook at another Marriott location. He indicated that our room was already tested. The bacteria can be inhaled from water droplets. Inconsiderate of the hotel not to mention. I certainly would not have booked or stayed here tonight and will never consider this hotel again for their lack of transparency when booking.

DO NOT BOOK this hotel. They should not be allowed to take bookings right now due to health concerns with the water. The problem was NOT disclosed to me upon booking. When I arrived they said I should NOT USE THE SHOWER & not splash water in the sink! Ridiculous. I canceled & went elsewhere, despite the cost, & was promised a refund but don't know if I'll see it. Google the hotel & Legionnaire's disease for recent news articles.

Nice lobby, restaurant was clean and food was decent. Excellent dining service. Downfall was finding out that the hotel water is contaminated with Legionnaires that was discovered last year and that we couldn’t shower or use the water safely. This was very upsetting. We were given an option to cancel but we were already exhausted from a long day, so we opted to stay.

Booked this airport hotel because we land at midnight and I don't want to sleep to the city. Got an email that there IS LEGIONNAIRE'S DISEASE at the hotel that recommends that YOU DONT TAKE A SHOWER. Tried via various means to have Marriott transfer our reservation to an equivalent AIRPORT hotel without paying more points/$. They said NO. ABSURD. Was told via email that "we would not want you to stay at a Marriott under such conditions" and yet still not willing to transfer me to an airport hotel without the upcharge.

We have now stayed there twice in the past 7 weeks. Once coming into Newark and the 2nd today flying out of Newark. Pros’s and Con’s. Pro’s: Close to the airport at a semi-reasonable price. If flying Delta via new terminal easy drop off to the airport. Great work out area might be the biggest I have ever seen in a hotel, good beds, Con’s: miserable lounge set-up and weak presentation of food both AM and evening, nothing close or walkable about this hotel off premises (or if so not promoted) Another downside but not because of hotel from what I am told. But the airport shuttle does not pick up at the Delta terminal. Drop off yes! But due to airport restrictions you need to hop on the shuttle to the old terminal. Again this is all hotels from how I was told. So no knock on the Renaissance.

Very disappointed with this hotel! I have stayed at this particular hotel for years, like 15+ years, so I am no stranger to this location. I have in the past, dealt with Monika, the former GM, but she has since left and now there is someone new. During our stay, we were granted with free Conceirge access for breakfast, which was very nice; however, the overall experience was horrible. My friend and I arrived approximately 11:30 PM after spending the day in NYC. There was no parking in the front, so we had to park around the back. The one main door was all boarded up, because someone drove through it, and the other three doors were locked. I attempted to use the phone that was in the corridor but that did not work, not even a dial tone. We had to walk all the way around the building, in the dark, with our suitcases. Once we got in, I told one of the clerks at the front end that the phone did not work, and his reply to me was "the doors are locked at 11PM'. Obviously he did not comprehend what I said, which that the phone did not work, which should be considered a safety issue, being that no one would ever know if someone needed them back there - no security on the premises, nothing. So now we get to our room and we are not only disgusted but exhausted from the day. We get to our room and find that this room is very much in need of refurbishment. Stains on the bathroom ceiling, paint peeling from the walls, wallpaper hanging from the bathroom wall where it was cut out and pieced back in, missing shampoo bottle, chipped/peeling bathtub and dirty toilet. Out of all the rooms this hotel has, I feel like we may have scored one of the most UNDESIRABLE rooms in the whole building. To say disappointed would be an understatement. The next morning, we tried to sleep in, but had cleaning people outside of our room bright and early. I am assuming they were in other rooms, but their stuff was smack, dab right out in front of our room door. However the best had to be, having housekeeping letting themselves into our room, without knocking or anything, while we were still in there. Of course, I complained to the new GM, but the same old reply, "I will let housekeeping know and have them look into it" - which in translation means, "hmmm sorry for the bad stay, but we are still not going to do anything for you'. Just be aware if you stay here, the hotel is in very bad need of updates, the hotel staff leaves a lot to be desired, and you may want to keep your door locked at all time, because housekeeping staff may let themselves in.

1) Do not book here until the legionnaires outbreak is resolved ( see pictures). We did not find out until after booking and would have decided elsewhere if we knew ahead of time. 2) Not up to the standard of Renaissance brand. Me and my husband travel often and have come to really enjoy Renaissance hotels. We even chose a Renaissance as our wedding hotel. This one is a bit of a dump. The tub was chipped to the point of looking dirty, the glass on the door to the ice maker room was cracked, carpet old, a lot was dingy and dirty. The lobby is fine but the rooms and floors do not look as kept as the lobby. We have club lounge access and after running all over the 10th floor looking for it (there is a sign for it there but no actual location) we learned that the person who un-enthusiastically checked us in forgot to mention it was on the lobby level (where there is no sign). A worker thankfully was able to find us hot water for tea, but most club lounges have a machine so you can get tea and coffee even during off hours. Not here. Ultimately, most people stay at airport hotels because it makes their air travel more convenient, and this is the only reason one should stay here. Shuttle leaves every 30 min to the airport.

Old and musty, carpet and furniture in room are super old and smell is bad, also bathrooms are not nice at all. On top they have legionella in the water 😳 will not stay here again. Only good thing: mattress and sheets are nice , so I at least am not totally disappointed but it needs an update asap…

I booked this hotel last minute because of some delays at Newark airport. When I arrived at the hotel, they handed me a piece of paper, letting me know that legionella bacteria had been found in the hotels water system. They say that the risk of getting sick from buildings water supply is low, especially for healthy people. However, there are a number of things that will increase risk. There’s nothing on the website that tells you this when booking. When I checked in, I was given the option of rebooking elsewhere, etc. This hotel is in the middle of nowhere so I don’t even know how I would get to another hotel except by going back to the airport and getting another shuttle the front desk person was very nice, but I feel like there should be something on the website or someway to know this in advance further, I called the hotel to inquire about the shuttle when I was at the airport, the front desk had the opportunity to tell me and didn’t.

We booked one night because of a canceled flight so just needed a room with good A/C that’s clean and that’s what the Renaissance was for us. Unfortunately, the hotel wasn’t much past that. Our bathroom looked like a bad remodel and there were small things (like charging $3 for coffee in the lobby) that would expect at a Courtyard, but not a Renaissance which is categorized as a premium brand in Marriott’s portfolio. The most disappointing part of our stay was housekeeping walking in without knocking at 9:30 in the morning even though we had a 2 pm checkout. Hotels need to coordinate with their housekeeping to not bother guest and entering without knocking isnt acceptable.

I spent one night at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel before leaving on vacation. We used their park and fly package which allows you to leave your car at the hotel while on vacation for a set price. A hotel shuttle will bring you to and from the airport. It's a convenient option for travelers. The hotel itself is Renaissance-nice -- clean, modern with a mostly friendly staff. Beds are comfortable. While I didn't make use of it, there's a restaurant and bar on premises. All in all, it was a good way to get a good night's sleep before venturing off on holiday.
