This hotel was our choice between less expensive hotels with terrible reviews, and more expensive hotels out of our budget. It's an older hotel with outside entry just off main Highway 17 near the hospital and College of the Albemarle. Although it's several miles away from the downtown area, there are a Captain D's, McDonald's, Food Lion, Dollar General and Chinese carryout nearby. On check-in the owner upgraded us from two double beds to a king, without our asking. The king room may not have used in some time. There was no soap and no facial tissue. The room decor was not inviting, in shades of brown. Two of the same picture hung side by side. There was a brown reclining chair but we did not use it. One side of the bed made a scraping metallic noise when sat upon but was otherwise comfortable. The towels were thin and coarse. We did not make coffee or tea but noticed that unwrapped foam cups were provided.. The main problem, however, was the floor. It was not level, in a first floor room, and my husband and I had significant balance issues that scared us until we realized the problem. There is no breakfast at this hotel although it obviously has been offered in the past. Things we liked were that the room was clean, we heard no road noise and the fridge had a freezer component. I would not stay again without checking the room first.
