Never again! Was this supposedly ‘deluxe’ room costing over £550 per night (yes you read that right!) worth it? It most definitely was not! It was small, pokey, intolerably hot and the window looked out onto a wall no more than 3 feet away and nothing else. The air conditioning was totally ineffectual and they had bolted the only window so it could only be opened 2 inches at best - totally useless as a source of fresh air. So, if your idea of the perfect 4 star hotel is to spend sleepless nights sweltering in a hot, airless room on an uncomfortable bed, then this is the hotel for you! And to add insult to injury they suck you in with offers of cheap upgrades they are neither willing nor able to provide and then even after you’ve checked in and been told they’re unavailable, they continue to send the same offers knowing that they cannot be fulfilled. Comment on this and they are brusque and condescending, no doubt taking great pleasure in putting someone who requires a walking aid as far away as possible from only lift. A thoroughly unpleasant hotel staffed by some very unpleasant people (particularly someone I assume was management) - My advice? stay well away from the Hotel du Vin Edinburgh and spend your money at a hotel that has a clue what value for money and customer service actually is.
