I was SO excited to finally be heading to the Inn at Perry Cabin, but the experience was a complete letdown. I received a text that afternoon saying my request for early checkin couldn’t be honored due to high occupancy. “Good for them!”, I thought. At checkin I was told they couldn’t upgrade our room due to high occupancy - ok, but odd since I hadn’t asked for an upgrade. Walking around that afternoon we were puzzled as to where everyone was since we didn’t see any other guests and asked a staff member if there was a private event somewhere that had everyone involved. They told us the hotel was at 30% occupancy (later confirmed by management.) So why proactively lie about that? Walking into the room I noticed a few pieces of trash on the floor and was concerned that it hadn’t been properly cleaned. That didn’t seem to be the case, but it didn’t set a good tone. We opted for dinner in the restaurant as we’d heard good things. We started out as the only table, ordered from the price fix menu ($125/person for 3 courses - appetizer, entree, desert - no ala cart option) and (one of their lowest priced) bottles of wine. The oyster soup was wonderful, but my steak came overcooked and I had a hard time getting anyone’s attention (there were now 3 other tables of 2 in the restaurant). By the time someone came to check on us my husband was done eating and it seemed tedious to have them cook another steak (I had nibbled at the crispy little veggies that garnished the plate and dollop of pureed potato that was under the steak). Price fix isn’t great for us since hubby never eats dessert, but Blueberry Lemon Smith Island Cake sounded nice. It was VERY pretty with tiny flowers, etc. clustered on top, but it was served unfrosted and the entire exterior was stale. I broke through the outside to try a few interior bites. It was ok. They took $60 off for the steak that I couldn’t eat, but I was hungry after paying almost $400 for dinner. High for a cup of soup and a stale but pretty piece of cake. The grounds were lovely and the bed was cozy, but those are the only things I can say were great. I’ve waited to post this review because I filled out guest survey and wanted to give their management an opportunity to address the issues. I received an email saying that “leadership had addressed my concerns with the staff” and a phone call to review our experience (there were a few other issues, but these are the highlights) and was told that they would like to know when we return so they can “send an appetizer to our table” and/or upgrade our room, but honestly, having already given them $1,000 of our money, I’m just not feeling it.
