I was taken here for a birthday treat and it did not disappoint. We stayed in the Shepherds huts which are fantastic, much better than stuffy bedrooms. The hut was warm, cozy, well equipped but there were a couple of issues. The complimentary gin bottle was empty, the TV hard to get working and please kill those Nespresso machines with fire as the coffee is vile and they only work 30% of the time. We had breakfast delivered to the hut with a paper and this was ideal, much better than being stuck in a restaurant with posh folk. All the ingredients were fresh and you can just take your time and enjoy the view. Dinner was mind blowingly expensive and we’ve had a few tasting menus with pairings in our time. But each course was interesting and the sommelier did well with the pairings. We’ve come away with two new wines to hunt down but it was £160 each for the pairings which is a bit harsh. Credit to the sommelier who knows her stuff and engaged with our plebeian but honest wine knowledge. Food was great, no better than others we’ve had but pricey. The ambiance felt a little bit stuffy but that’s probably right for the expected clientele unlike scruffy long haired gits with earrings. Also the first course took an age to come and we waited a while to order and get pre-dinner drinks. This needs to be right when dinner is a grand. All in all a great weekend and we might return if the premium bonds do their job.
