The Stags Head Inn

What a find! We popped in here on a Friday night for a couple of drinks and the staff and locals were so friendly and welcoming we decided to book for the Saturday night to have a meal to celebrate a 70th birthday. When we mentioned one of our party was gluten and milk intolerant the chef came out to advise what dishes could be cooked specially to accommodate our needs. This was very much appreciated. The owner was so helpful and professional advising on different drinks and when we came back in on the Saturday he had sprinkled happy birthday confetti on the table, such a lovely touch. The food was really tasty and cooked to perfection. This pub is a real gem. If you pop to the ladies loo they have some interesting signs that will make you smile.

Visited on Valentines Day for a meal. Had a nice table near the log fire by the window. Greeted by Ringo and Nigel, the landlord, it was like a pub would be in days gone by. It was as if we were being invited into their home and eating the neighbours. Such a lovely atmosphere with local people, chat and laughs. A CAMRA member with some lovely hand pumped ales, you can even have it in a proper beer glass with a handle. The food menu is excellent, and we both over ate. This place will also do accommodation which a friend of ours has used. If you are visiting Dunster, I would recommend you try here. Plenty of local talent plays here, according to the notice board. However, nothing on that Friday, so they happily had romantic music played. Sorry, it was back to back Matt Monroe.

The fish was incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection with a golden, crispy batter, and paired beautifully with fluffy, hand-cut chips. The presentation was impeccable, elevating a classic dish to something truly special. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Dunster, The Stag’s Head is a must-visit. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy great food, wonderful company, and the heartwarming essence of Somerset hospitality.
