Gewandhaus Dresden, Autograph Collection

Allgemein sehe ich eine Diskrepanz zwischen Anspruch/Preis und Wirklichkeit. Das Hotel wurde nett renoviert, Zimmer sind aber sehr klein. Das innere ist sehr ruhig, aber es fehlt etwas an Ambiente (Hintergrundmusik? …). Service nicht auf 5 Sterne Niveau (bsp wurde uns zu keinem Zeitpunkt Hilfe mit unserem Gepäck angeboten, auch nicht, als ein Mitarbeiter zufällig in den selben Fahrstuhl stieg). Lage ist top. Preis aber zu hoch.

The building itself is quite charming, both inside and out. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The hotel seems overly enamored with the fact that it's housed in an old building, but that charm quickly wears thin. Our check-in was efficient, though it was the first time I’ve been openly reminded that I was using points for my reservation. There was no acknowledgment of my loyalty status, which has sadly become common at many Marriott properties. Upon entering our room, we were taken aback. The space bore little resemblance to the standard rooms depicted on the website. It was dimly lit, with an uncomfortably low ceiling. The air conditioning was practically nonexistent, and if we hadn’t brought our own fans, I’m not sure how we would have managed. There was a mini-bar, but no price list was provided. Given the hotel’s exorbitant pricing—charging 8 euros plus 20% just to launder a single t-shirt—I can only imagine the cost of a bag of gummy bears! The room’s cleanliness left much to be desired. The carpet was stained, and it was unclear when it had last been cleaned. We found a leftover cashew on the bathroom floor, and to our horror, a large clump of what appeared to be a woman’s hair stuck to the shower wall. When I took photos and reported it to the front desk, they casually remarked that this "should not happen." You think? They didn’t offer anything for this either. The restaurant’s prices are steep, though thankfully, the area offers a wide variety of dining options with reasonable pricing. The food at nearby establishments is typically priced, but the hotel restaurant charges about 30% more for the same items. Coke at the store right next to the hotel was 1.50 euro. That same bottle was 7.99 euro at the hotel restaurant. Do yourself a favor and dine and drink elsewhere. In the end, I was okay with the number of points I used for the stay, but I’ve stayed at Courtyards that far surpass this place in quality. When you check out there is no “how was everything” or any talking, well except that you need to pay 6 euro for taxes. For all the issues this should have been removed by the hotel and they pay the taxes. Keep in mind, how do you know what taxes on the room rate is when you used points and it’s free? Needless to say, I won’t be returning. Stay away from this hotel. Marriott’s "Autograph Collection" seems like a cheap way to rebrand an old building as “eclectic” after minimal renovations. Save yourself the trouble and steer clear of all these properties.

This was one of the best hotels that we stayed in on our trip. The reception desk was excellent, very courteous and everyone spoke English. The rooms are excellent, very spacious, comfortable and clean. The hotel itself is beautiful. The best part is staying in this hotel is that its in the city center of Dresden. All of the incredible sights are within easy walking distance and highly recommended. There is also a great variety of ethnic restaurant right next to the hotel and very easy to walk too. All in all I would absolutely stay in this excellent hotel again. We were in Dresden for one day, I recommend a longer stay to get the feel of the area and it's incredible sights. Also, the hotel is close to the train station, the cab ride was less than 10 Euros and took 5 minutes.

It was my mother’s birthday and we booked the stay for them at the Gewandhaus Hotel Dresden. We were absolutely blown away by the welcome and hospitality of the team. My family really enjoyed their stay and were treated so nice and well. Alex, Guest Relations Supervisor went out of his way to make our stay very memorable, same as a whole team at the hotel. As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium elite member, this hotel is one of my favourite Autograph Collection hotels and I will definitely be back. Keep up the great work!

My third time to this location in the past 3 years. Such a quality experience each time. This goes to the staff (a special callout and recognition to Marc at the front desk for his level of attention and "politeness"), the features of this hotel (and cleanliness), and downstairs pool. Finally, this hotel is just far enough away from the main tourist area. I am a Titanium member and this one ranks right near the top of all locations I stay at. Many thanks!

In the 3 years since I last stayed here, the hotel has declined. I am a Marriott Gold member, My first room was right next to the elevator, and when I went downstairs and asked to be moved, I felt as though I was inconveniencing the desk clerk. They gave me a room one door further down. When I came home that evening, I had a leak in my ceiling that was creating a large puddle and continually dripping. I put a bunch of towels down and let them know. By the following evening, the leak had been fixed, thankfully. My room also had a large Jacuzzi tub with the shower above it, which was very difficult as you almost had to stand on the sloped part of the tub to be under the shower. It was also tricky getting in and out of the tub as it was very high. Perhaps the thing that I found the most disappointing was that the only choice for breakfast was to pay €35 for buffet. I asked if I could just get a cup of coffee and a roll and the answer was only if I paid €35. This seems silly. There was nothing horribly wrong with the hotel, but the overall stay was just unpleasant. Certainly not five star.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Not sure why there are recent complaints in the reviews. Staff are very kind, the rooms are beautiful as are the bathrooms, and the location is perfect. We’d definitely stay here again if we return to Dresden. Our only small suggestion is to replace the blankets for bigger ones. We didn’t understand the two-blanket system on the king bed. Otherwise a perfect stay!
