Waldhotel Sonnora

Waldhotel Sonnora is a boutique hotel set on a hillside in lovely woodland, overlooking a pretty village. It is home to a three star Michelin restaurant. The rooms have recently been modernised, and are generous in size. My room 13) had its own balcony looking down over the gardens and village below. There was an excellent shower, separate toilet and a very comfortable bed. In this rural area you can’t really expect blazing fast Wi-Fi, but it was an adequate 6Mpbs. The staff were charming and the breakfast was superb, with terrific croissants and eggs made to order.

This was our first dinner and stay here since the pandemic began in 2020, and just as much has changed on a global scale, there have been some changes afoot here too. All of the bedrooms have been refreshed, and now have the feel of a contemporary boutique hotel rather than their previously rather dated (albeit comfortable) appearance. The thoughtful touches such a complimentary minibar (including beer) still continue and an Italian toiletries line is a nice upgrade too. All in all it's a great makeover as the accommodation is now befitting of the wonderful cuisine that the kitchen offers. Breakfast has also had an upgrade, with the entire room refurbished so that it feels even brighter. The quality of the food is as good as it always was, with perfectly made omelettes (harder to fine that one might think) that are plated elegantly. There are also some new extra-luxe dishes available that include truffles or caviar (for a supplement). It is now even more of a pleasure to stay here and the refurbishment has left it refreshed but still full of charm.

Hier soll nur das Hotel zur Sprache kommen. Das unfassbar gute Restaurant wird entsprechend auf der Restaurantseite besprochen. Recht frisch renoviert wirkt alles im Waldhotel Sonnora. Die Einrichtung ist geschmackvoll und hochwertig. Der Service ist sehr herzlich, die Zimmer großzügig dimensioniert und die Betten sind exzellent. Man schläft sehr gut. Das Frühstück sucht seinesgleichen - zu empfehlen sind vor allem die Eierspeisen, es ist aber alles von allerhöchster Qualität. Wir kommen wieder!

Wir waren nach längerer Zeit mal wieder im Sonnora, zuletzt noch unter der Leitung von Helmut Thieltges. Wie seinerzeit war es auch diesmal bei Clemens Rambichler ein traumhaftes Gourmeterlebnis mit 7 Gängen, absolut vergleichbar mit den ganz Großen wie Girardet, Robuchon, Witzigmann und Wohlfahrt. Eine solche Perfektion bei der Zubereitung der Speisen ist einfach grandios. Besonders gefallen hat uns, weil es selten geworden ist, dass es wunderbare Saucen statt Kleckse gibt und dazu passend zu fast jedem Gang den tollen Saucenlöffel; alle Besteckteile von Christofle. Hier ist wirklich alles perfekt, neben der Küche auch der Service unter der Leitung von Frau Rambichler. Eben ein Gesamtkunstwerk. Sehr empfehlenswert auch die Übernachtung in den geschmackvoll renovierten Zimmern mit Terrasse, von denen man einen schönen Blick in die zauberhafte Landschaft genießt. Auch das perfekte Frühstück ist ein Genuss.

Nous n'avons pas logés sur place mais on est venu manger dans le restaurant étoilé. C'est la 3ème fois que nous venons manger dans cet endroit magique. Un cuisine très rafiné et de très haut qualité. Sans aucun doute le meilleur restaurant de la région.
