On Arrival mid evening, following a flight from Edinburgh and no Taxis available at the airport we arrived by an excellent bus service and very helpful driver and passengers. We find to a totally unmanned reception.. Eventually we get someone from the dining room to book us in.Hardly a welcoming experience, basic allocation of room and directions to room. 247. This is further compounded by finding a sink in the bathroom that is badly cracked, probably to a state that it is unhygienic,. Hotels response on bringing this to their notice on return to Edinburgh, (heavy schedule did not permit pursue further at the time) is an apology and offer of a future discount. No chance of us returning to this hotel. They further said that having been brought to their notice it would be attended to. We were convinced that this was not recent damage and even if it were it would have been easily seen and reported by housekeeping staff. Room was otherwise ok but again some penny pinching or staff shortages resulted in room being only cleaned and made up twice in 7 nights. Best Western as a group of course wash there hands of any Involvement as there hotels are individual entities. Surely they have an onus to ensure hotels in there group meet minimum standards. This seems not. We will certainly avoid any such branded hotels in the future. If you are already booked and allocated Room 247 inspect it first.
