The Sands Beach Resort

I loved my stay here! location- unbelievable with the most incredible view and paradise like experience! The pool and beach is serene, well kept and quiet. If you are looking for a beautiful, quiet place with great service this is the place for you! There is a gorgeous bar on the beach, a few steps from your room and beach umbrellas to sit under. The rooms- excellent! I went with a friend and we each had a bungalow, the rooms are in great condition and well kept with great air conditioning. The staff! Just amazing! They helped us with every thing we needed (from fixing the a/c to getting us sea shoes and aloe from an aloe tree when we were burnt). They hand pick their staff and it shows. The guest relations manager Ally is outstanding and a shout out to the dining and bar staff too (Hamida, Rasheed, Kelvin, Michael, George, Sporah, Edgar). They are friendly and helpful and will help your arrange excursions if you want or just get you a drink or coconut at the beach. I highly recommend this hotel! And would love to go back!

What a find! This place epitomises Hukuna Matata - no worries. Great accommodation (we booked two bed villa with pool right on the beach), stunning location (away from main tourist area but all within easy taxi ride), great food, fabulous cocktails, beer and freshly squeezed fruit juices (thanks Hassa!) and a family of staff, led by the charming and charismatic Ally, who could not make you feel more at home and where absolutely nothing is not too much bother - including installing a brand new AC unit as ours wasn’t working so well! Good snorkelling off the main beach (be sure to explore under the nearby jetty - some of the best we did, even compared to the main excursions) and great snorkelling just a 1.5km walk (or short speedboat ride) at the well known Blue Lagoon. Top recommendations include chilling out at Barista Zanzibar at kite surf central Paje (10mins in taxi), lunch at The Rock (pricey but good), the magical Maalum Caves (so good the kids wanted to go multiple times) and just relaxing and listening to the waves and wind in the palm fronds… Christmas in paradise - hard to beat!

Perfect place if you just want to relax - without the sounds, crowds, and constant activities of larger resorts. Rooms are surprisingly large. Service is personal and impeccable for the region. Only negative point was the lack of WiFi in the rooms.

Great hotel right on the beach. Visiting with our two adult daughters we stayed in a two bed villa with private pool. Both bathrooms had a WC , shower , a bath and also an outdoor shower plus we had a separate WC off the lounge Even in August the hotel never seemed full and there was always space at the main pool or beach sunbeds if we wanted to use them. Mr Ali was really helpful and always around for a laugh. Big shout out to the Head chef his assistant and the ever cheerful Michael who were always keen to help explain what food in the buffets were suitable for gluten free . One of the chefs ( didn't catch her name sorry) even told us one night that she was going to make a gluten free cake dessert for the next night - she did and it was realty tasty . At breakfast there were plenty of GF options including bread and rolls that looked as good as the gluten options. Michael was always ready to cook GF pancakes too. The nightly fresh fish grills were out of this world. The location of the hotel was the other side of the island from stone town but tbh the taxi ride across never seemed too long. All the staff were ever willing to help whether it was printing boarding passes , arranging trips o chasing down missing taxi drivers at 4.30 am that weren't even booked through them. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again , hope to be back.

The resort was excellent! We had the best time ever! All staff were very professional but at the same time very friendly. It’s a perfect place to spend your holidays with your family! Very peaceful with a beautiful sensational garden ! Unique place with a spectacular beach of white sand and the reef that will surprise everyone. The beautiful colours of the rising sun and sunsets mixed with a colours of the flowers, plants and the ocean remains forever… impossible to forget… The resort very clean and cuisine incredibly good with a delicious food. Our especially thanks to Ally and his staff for the friendly attitude and professional support in every need. We hope to come back and see you all soon!

Wonderful spacious bungalows practically on the beach, with huge windows overlooking the Indian Ocean! A great beach bar with fantastic service. Breakfast and dinner were included. Both were buffets. Breakfast with fresh cooked eggs to build your meal around. Dinner featuring grilled fish direct from local fisherman fresh that day!!

My husband and I stayed at the The Sands Beach Resort for four days in April 2024 and we really enjoyed ourselves. The Good: The beach is pristine. Powder white sand with lovely blue-green waves. It's the perfect beach for relaxation. We stayed at the beach view villa which was massive! Very spacious with very good air conditioning and a big, clean bathroom. The food was amazing! Absolutely delicious. And the staff were some of the friendliest and helpful we have come across. We enjoyed spending our days at the beach bar, which had a great view and great food. The Bad: Wifi is only provided in common areas, which is not really a problem if the rooms had phones connecting to the front desk like most hotels. However, the only way to contact management for anything is through whatsapp, but since Wifi is not provided in the rooms, guest must have a local sim or an e-sim (like we did) if you want to order extra water bottles etc. I believe this is something the management should look into, as it doesn't make sense to state that whatsapp is the only mode of communication when Wifi is not provided. A phone line would be much appreciated. During our stay, the main pool was not clean. We were disappointed about this, but it did not take away from the amazing experience at the Sands. The Unique: This is a quiet beach that is fitting for couples or anyone who wants to get away from the hectic atmosphere of Nungwi.

Staff are amazing, always ready to help, very friendly and funny! The food is awesome specially the fish (the carpaccio was unreal). The rooms are spacious and clean. The beach is beautiful and right at your door step and it has a massive swimming pool. Great resort!

Absolutely stunning. Service beyond amazing. Quiet with gorgeous gardens and beach. Easy access for SCuBA diving. Incredibly friendly staff and felt completely safe with masai warriors guarding the hotel. Food was phenomenal. Hard to describe the soft perfectly fine sand. Lovely clear water. Fantastic diving and very reasonably priced. Would absolutely go back.
