Hotel Astoria

First impressions were amazing! The facade of this hotel is very grand, and it is perfect situated in the centre of town, so easy to walk everywhere. Bars, restaurants and free street parking surround the place. Free sparkling wine upon arrival was a nice touch. We had a deluxe room on the third floor with plush carpeting. While the decor was nice, and the bed was large and comfortable, having no air conditioning is pretty much a dealbreaker nowadays. (They do offer a fan, however, and we left our balcony window open). The only other annoying thing was the lack of a proper shower. It is only a bathtub with a hand-held shower wand. There is no curtain or glass partition to keep the water from spraying all over the bathroom. Despite these annoyances, we enjoyed our stay at the Astoria. De Haan is a charming, unspoiled beach resort. Next time, we will take the Tram that runs along the coast.

Astoria delivers on its promises. Friendly staff, multilingual, and great family room. We booked a 3 bedroom layout that allowed for our 3 kids to have the privacy and space they, and we as parents, needed. Great location, just minutes walking to the beach ⛱️ 👌

Just back from this superb hôtel. This is THE PLACE to be in De Haan. Excellent service, personnel extremely professional. A small mention for Freya , réception and Brian in the bar, but all were very polite and welcoming. The rooms also very clean, and bed very confortable. Bathroom and toilet facilities clean and well furnished with accessories. An excellent breakfast one can only dream of! No complaints whatsoever. A really good surprise and just a few minutes walk from the beach. I fully recommend this excellent hôtel. We intend to return whenever possible. Congratulations to the Manager and team. G. I stayed at Hotel Astoria with my family in August 2022. This is one of the priciest hotels in De Haan which itself is an expensive city. To start with the hotel does not have a step-free entrance, quite shocking in this day and age so if you are travelling with lots of luggage, have a family with a push-chair (like us) or a wheel-chair user rule out staying here straight away. There are about ten high steps to access the hotel, staff offer no help instead they actually look at you like you are a nuisance. At arrival, the check-in staff tried to charge us for the extra bed in the room without bothering to see the booking so be careful if travelling with a family. We were told we can have a complimentary drink from their bar. When trying to claim this offer the staff makes you feel like you are a freeloader, pure rude behaviour followed by a list of drinks that the offer doesn't cover. Basically you can only have a beer or a soft drink. They say they have parking on premises but it's actually just free off-street parking. On the day of our departure there was a fare in the city center so we had to park our car 2miles away. The staff prefers business from walk-in customers in bar and restaurant over hotel guests. Attitude towards children was specially cold and distant, again making us feel like we are causing them extra work.

J’avais choisi cet établissement afin de passer un week-end romantique à la mer et demander ma compagne en mariage. Ce fut un désastre total… Nous sommes arrivés dans la chambre 219 attitrée par l’hotel et avons été très désagréablement surpris de l’état de celle-ci : lampe de chevet cassée qui pendait au mur, store de la fenêtre cassé, poussière sur les meubles, trace de graisse sur la porte, auréole blanche sur la moquette de la salle de bain, vis sortant du mur de la toilette, lunette de la toilette cassée, … (cf photos ci-dessous). Nous nous sommes directement adressés au personnel de la réception et là ce fut la deuxième mauvaise surprise : personnel absolument pas à l’écoute, un réceptionniste nous dit n’avoir que quelques minutes à nous accorder car il est bientôt l’heure qu’il rentre chez lui, pas du tout orienté solution, aucun geste commercial, nous balade pendant 4h (!) en nous promettant que nous allons rencontrer le manager pour finalement nous dire qu’il est rentré chez lui et qu’il n’y aurai aucune solution proposée ni dédommagement. Déçus et ahuri par cette situation nous avons préféré quitter l’établissement le jour même sans avoir utilisé la chambre. Nous avons adressé notre plainte au manager par mail. En échangeant avec ce monsieur, nous avons vite compris l’attitude du personnel : aucune excuse, aucune remise en question, estime que la chambre est digne d’un hôtel 4 étoiles en Belgique. Bref si vous voulez éviter de jeter 500€ par la fenêtre, passez votre chemin.

Wir waren als drei Erwachsene in zwei Zimmern eine Woche im März hier. Das Hotel liegt sehr ruhig und dennoch zentral gelegen. Mitten im historischen Zentrum von De Haan sind Restaurants, Geschäfte und das Meer in unmittelbarer Nähe bzw. in 10 Gehminuten zu erreichen. Die von aussen sichtbaren Jugendstilelemente hat man im inneren erhalten ( Buntglasfenster, Verzierungen) und dennoch ein modernes, ansprechendes Design erreicht. Die Zimmer sind geräumig, ruhig, hell, die Matratzen gut, das Bad geräumig, alles ist sauber und aufgeräumt. Vermisst haben wir einen Kühlschrank im Zimmer. Auch zum Arbeiten sind die Räume nicht optimal. Das Personal freundlich und kompetent, hilft gerne bei Tischreservierung im Restaurant. Bei der Anreise wurden wir mit einem Glas Sekt begrüsst. Eine nette Geste. Im Hotel selbst gibt es kein Restaurant. Aber ein hervorragendes Frühstück mit auf Wunsch frisch zubereiteten Eiern. Der Fitnessraum ist absolut angemessen und bietet einige Möglichkeiten. Das Hotel hat keine eigenen Parkplätze. Im März ist das kein Problem, es gab in unmittelbarer Nähe immer genug Plätze und man musste die Koffer nicht weit schleppen. Was zumindest für uns noch wichtig war: man kann bis wenige Tage vor Ankunft kostenfrei stornieren. Uns hat es gefallen und wir kommen gerne wieder.
