Chequers Lodge

Dates visited: Thurs 10th - Sun 13th October 2024 About us: couple in our late 20s Room: King Room with Kitchnette Would have given it 3.5 stars if I could. The good: Great communication prior to the stay. The studio apartment was lovely and clean, very modern too. The bathroom is gorgeous and smelt lovely! We loved the little touches like tea, coffee, biscuits, sponge, washing up liquid, and bin bags. There’s a fridge in the room, which is great for storing lunches and drinks. The location is good - around 30 mins from Lake Windermere. Lots of choices for food and shops (a walk away or a 10-15 minute drive for even greater choices). The bad: The bed was VERY hard. This comes down to personal preference, but we prefer a soft-medium spring mattress, so we found the bed really uncomfortable. There’s only one small window near the door, so it does feel very enclosed, but this didn’t bother us as we were only there to sleep. You can hear all the noise from the neighbours upstairs… Footsteps (the absolute worst!!), coughing, the TV… Etc. We only had people above us during our last night, but I’d have probably complained if I heard this every night (as it was SO loud). Ear plugs were provided, but we heard all the noise before going to sleep. Overall, lovely aesthetics, but not somewhere I would stay again, sorry! Jade & Michael

A really great place to stay, the room was quiet, really well thought out for an accessible room, and well decorated. The bed was one of the most comfy I've slept in and the room was warm. The best night's sleep I've had away from home. I will definitely look to stay here again, if I'm in the area

Came here for 2 nights with my partner. Room was spotless and smelt fresh, hallways smelt amazing! Communication was amazing from the get go, even had a text the following day asking if we needed anything as we left a "do not disturb" sign on the door. Room had everything we needed for a short stay! Will definitely recommend and will stay again if we travel that way again

Having stayed in numerous accommodation though out the UK I can honestly say that this is by far the best . Booked 5 rooms for 2 nights and what a delight it was to stay at Chequers. The care and attention that the owners have taken to ensure that your stay is first class, from the toiletries in the bathroom to the comfort of the beds to the drink selection available goes over and above your normal accommodation. It was a pleasure to stay at Chequers with communications regarding check-in excellent. We wish the owners much success in there business and would recommend this accommodation to anyone thinking of staying in the area.

Beautiful rooms and exceptionally clean. Perfect place to stay for leisure or business. Rooms are well equipped. Hosts are very welcoming. Everything about the stay was easy. Highly recommend if staying near Barrow or Dalton. Will always stay here now for business.

It was a nice surprise to find this lodge. Brilliant stay in every aspect , everything is new in an old building, very clean, very quiet nice pub next door everything perfect keep it as it is. We will certainly come back if we return to the Lake District
