Lou Calen

Lou Calen is built in and around substantial gardens on sloping land close to the centre of Cotignac. It mainly takes advantage of existing buildings, but has also developed some new rooms in sympathetic styling. The views from the gardens and from some of the rooms are delightful - across to the well-known caves and cliffs in one direction, over the countryside and village in others. The gardens contain a pool for adults (14 plus), a separate pool and play area for children and a tennis court - but there is still plenty of room to wander and find space. The restaurant had (in April; it may be different in high season) very high standards of cuisine with a fairly limited choice of dishes - two for each course. Some work was continuing when we were there at the bottom of the property - we were given an upgraded room at the top of the gardens and the work was never an interference or problem for us or for other guests. Staff were very friendly. The room we were given, a suite, was outstanding. We would have no hesitation in recommending Lou Calen. We stayed for 3 nights as part of a driving holiday in Provence.

Stunning location; beautiful, ample and clean rooms with a spacious and comfortable bed, plus some outside space to enjoy the surroundings; great level of service from the staff. Good quality French breakfast. The restaurant and wine bar on location are also excellent. Will book again.

A magical place for a family vacation. Staff (especially Anthony at front desk☺) were wonderful. We booked 2 rooms, which were incredibly spacious and unique. Perfect location in Cotignac,a couple minutes walk away from boutiques and many restaurants. We loved our stay and highly recommend Lou Calen!

A nice resort with beautiful grounds, but very difficult to find. There were lots of technical features in the room but a decent amount didn’t work or were too confusing to operate. Our room was also in a construction area and not very easy to get too. The view from the balcony was beautiful. Parking was complicated, the hotel lot was full and other parking options were limited and far. Restaurant on site was booked out for the entire weekend and we were not informed ahead of time, but the surrounding area had nice places with wonderful food.

This is hands down the most beautiful hotel I ever have stayed at and I travel often. We were here for our friends wedding. From the start Jade and Anthony were so helpful and communicative throughout our 3 day/2 night stay. The amenities throughout the hotel were wonderful and inside of our hotel room as well. The a**osphere surrounding the hotel (mountains, views, location, etc.) was absolutely stunning and remarkable. I could not recommend staying here more and we are looking forward to coming back to Lou Calen in the future- thank you again for a wonderful vacation!

A beautiful hotel an oasis of calm and retreat. the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The rooms are very tasteful, spacious, the garden is a dream! The whole area is pure relaxation, the restaurant is wonderful Cotignac beautiful village 5 min walking distance We love to come back

The friendly welcoming and we were upgraded to a super nice room! Nice pool area with the heated pool! Nice stuff both days! The restaurant is really good! And the location in Cotignac is perfect! We like to come back soon!

Unlike many restaurants in France Lou Calen’s restaurant Jardin Secret has embraced the vegetable with as much enthusiasm as its tenderloins. Also had a great fish choice for those that dont eat red meat.Really appreciated as we have 1 vegan and 2 vegetarian children.

We held my daughter's wedding in nearby Chateau Robernier and stayed in the Lou Callan once we vacated the venue. Many of the wedding guests had booked the hotel and a number of our friends remained. So we had directions, yet we missed the opening from the town square twice, to the amusement of local cafe customers. The hotel is accessed via a very narrow road and I assure you that your car does get there... I drive a two seater and I was extremely concerned. Once you access the grounds you are in for a surprise. Hidden behind a walled garden in the centre of the town lies a tranquil, beautiful and quirky hotel. Our room was set into the stone, Troglodyte with a waterfall shower further into the cave. Another friend had a three story tower - the pigeon cree. Fantastic. The grounds are huge, considering the hotel's location and the pool is great. Breakfast is simple.... very simple, cheese and tomatoes, bread coffee and juice, beautiful produce from the gardens. With a two minute walk to the town centre, if you are in the area, this hotel is worth the little extra that it costs. Finally the staff - I mean this as a compliment - what staff? The place is so tranquil, the staff are incredibly polite and are in the back ground, just in case you need them. First class. Loved it
