Hillcrest Guest House

Wonderful guest house in historic Cooktown. Wonderful host Katrina who was available for any enquiry! The room was immaculate, and the bathrooms equally so. Truly lovely accomodation at great price point.

My cousin and I stayed at the Guesthouse for two nights. It’s a beautiful old wooden building, freshly and cleanly maintained. Our family room we shared had 4 bunk beds and a double bed. The room had ceiling fans and air conditioning. Breakfast was supplied and was varied and lovely. Eating it beside the pool was a relaxing start to our day. We shared a bathroom with other guests, but it was kept very clean at all times. Sadly our room did not have a sink but we were given access to the kitchen to fill our water bottles each day. Free Wifi was provided so we had internet reception but we were unable to use our phones to make calls or send messages. The Guesthouse is on the side of Grassy Hill. It was not till we were well away from the hill that we could use our phones. All in all, however, we would both love to stay there again for future visits. Word of warning, however - book well in advance as it is a popular guesthouse and we were lucky to get a room.

Hillcrest guest house was lovely place to stay. It’s clean, well maintained, the breakfast is fresh and delicious and Katrina was extremely helpful settling us in and telling us about the great places to visit in Cooktown. We would happily come back here!

We booked the Studio with ensuite and it was very large. We arrived early and Katrina stored our luggage until check-in time. The kitchen had a very large skylight which didn't have a cover. While this wasn't much of an issue for us, it could be in summer with light and heat coming in. The bathroom design was odd with a laundry tub rather than a basin. In addition, there was mould on the plug. Breakfast was very pleasant with plenty of conversation. The room also had lots of steps internally and the back of the building (on the way to breakfast was somewhat tatty). On the other hand, the bed was comfortable and there were bedside tables with lights and electric sockets on both sides of the bed. The pool was too cold for us but that's a matter of what you're used to. When we left, Katrina very helpfully drove us down to the main street with our suitcases.

Clean, comfortable room and bountiful breakfast. Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Short walk to the centre of town and attractions. Will happily return. Ability to launder clothes and hang them out to dry. Pool was a welcome diversion on a hot day.

What a wonderful handy location on the way up to Grassy Hill, just a few blocks from the main street Extremely clean and comfortable with excellent friendly staff and management Highly recommended. Great breakfast and a pool to cool off in!
