Colchester Boutique Hotel

Colchester Boutique Hotel, a rather lovely 300 year old property just off the high street, our room was an outhouse out the back by the courtyard garden. Twin beds which were comfortable and a spacious bathroom with waterfall head shower, only negative was heating on full and not able to turn off. Staff were friendly and chatty and nothing was too much for them to do. Breakfast was amazing. 5 stars would stay here again!!!

Staff- Roland was vey attentive and hospitable and is the face of the hotel, thank you Roland you wishing me a good day at work was a highlight of my visit Breakfast- continental breakfast was very extensive and the best I have had lots of choice, crumpets, bread, pancakes, bagels, every cereals you could desire, lots of fresh fruit including assorted berries, meats and cheese and scrambled eggs etc etc etc you will not go hungry or get bored Room- I was in room 2 a single room small but perfectly formed, tea and coffee, still and sparkling water, ice on request, biscuits and complimentary toiletries, fan hairdryer and safe in room, very quiet as room is in the back and bed was so comfy, shower hot and towels fluffy, room was cleaned and replenished every day. Location- just off the high street, walkable to range of restaurants and the college and institute, lots of things to see and do in walking distance, station not far. Colchester- lovely place to visit and people so nice, helpful and friendly, I was here for a week for work and the people I met made it ( Roland you are an asset to the hotel)

Although we didn't stay at the hotel we booked the venue for our 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends. We were told we would have a spectacular buffet with canapés mini burgers and mini fish and chips and a selection of chef prepared buffet food and it was to be a wonderful experience. Unfortunately although the canapés, fish and burgers were very nice there was not enough for everyone to have them and then the chef prepared help yourself buffet food arrived, which was only cheap supermarket party food, not what we were lead to believe and at £25.00 per head was not value for money. We have complained to the management but have not had the courtesy of a reply. Some of our guests did stay and were very satisfied, however if you are considering holding an event there don't bother...... this review is only published because we have been ignored and we feel that our treatment should be in the public domain

We hired the bar/outside area for a family gathering on Saturday. The experience in general was nice, but that was due to the people that came and not down to what we received from the hotel itself. My poor parents were massively overcharged for what we had. It is very much apparent that this is a struggling business and any money they make goes into keeping their head above water and not into the improvements that this hotel clearly needs. 1. The food/buffet that was provided was just frozen shop bought rubbish, that we ate tentatively as it purely served a purpose due to hunger and was definitely not consumed for any other reason. It was dry & flavourless. 2. The bar was poorly stocked, and there were no drinks on draught, due to not having enough custom. I asked for a pint of larger and was offered 2 bottles instead. I was under the impression that these were offered due to them not having the draught lager and it was made out that I would only be charged for the price of a pint, this was not the case and I was charged for both bottles, had I known this, I would have only had the 1 bottle. My friend ordered a Vodka, soda and lime, she was offered the grey goose vodka, which is great but the soda water was warm, which melted the ice straight away and to our horror, the Barman squeezed the lime into her drink with his BARE HANDS! And then we were charged £21 for the privilege. The cocktails were premixed in bottles and tasted as though they had been sitting there for a decade. After all this, the supposedly complimentary bottles of prosecco, my poor dad ended up having to pay for. This whole experience was 100% not worth the £1000 or more that my dad was charged, and that was supposed to have been a deal. Its fair to say that we left with a bad taste in our mouth, and surprisingly it was not because of the food. Im just glad I didn't have the extended experience of staying in one of their rooms. Definitely not recommended.

Lovely historic buildings centrally located yet very quiet, despite being only a very short walk from the centre of town. It was a welcome bonus to have free parking on site, locked and secure at night. The interiors are clean and well decorated and in keeping with the age of the buildings. Very helpful and attentive staff, and a good range of options available for the continental breakfast. A most enjoyable stay,

We stayed here over Christmas. The hotel was very warm and cosy. Our room was very comfortable and there was a generous supply of good quality tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Breakfast is continental. An excellent spread. A wide variety of cereals, fruit and yoghurt, cold meats and pastries. Roland looked after us well and kept the buffet fully stocked. The location is brilliant: near the top of North Hill, a few minutes walk from the town centre’s High Street. We appreciated how quiet it is even at such a busy time of year. We will definitely return to this hotel in the future.
