Mr & MRS Smith Double Red Duke

Very well equipped bedroom and pleasant bar, but they did not have a drink i asked for and did not have 'gin bowls' etc which for a hotel was poor. We ate in the restaurant that evening and the service was good the only suggestion i would give is the 'steak and chips' would be much nicer if some salad or veg were included, when I spoke to the waiter about this he just said the chef doesn't like doing veg!

From check in to check out the Double Red Duke was amazing. Luxury room, cosy atmosphere and great food. It was the perfect end to our holiday. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our room was stunning and the fresh cookies were a lovely touch. The radio playing upon arrival was delightful and made the whole experience that little bit more special. We had dinner on the patio/terrace and it was amazing. I can’t fault the Double Red Duke! We will certainly be visiting again.

Very characterful hotel in a beautiful setting. The most amazing food both breakfast and dinner, and fabulously comfy beds. Service is very friendly - we needed to swap rooms which was organised for us while we were attending a wedding. The reason for the room change, is that if you are tall, some rooms just don't work... we first had a room in the eaves of the hotel - my husband is 6ft 4 and couldn't stand up in some areas including the shower and had to bend through the doorways. Plus is you are looking for clothes storage, there are only hooks in the bathrooms or toilet - no wardrobe in either room we stayed.

Wow!! What a find a the beautiful Cotswolds setting. A perfect location for a great family weekend. The Double Red Duke offers a wonderful combination of hotel, restaurant and bar with stunning outdoor space. A very welcoming and friendly team throughout the long weekend. Great rooms, delicious food and a great variety of wines, beers and cocktails.

Went to dinner here as recommended by our AirBnB host. Waited almost 45 minutes for our dinner order to be taken, we were at the point of paying for drinks and leaving. Food reasonable but massively let down by service. Drinks left empty, then even when drinks order taken they were forgotten about, Topped off by an automatic 12.5% service charge - for abysmal service.

Our server, Max, was both knowledgeable, attentive and polite, as were all of the staff . Our starters were delicious. We had been warned by friends who had eaten at the DRD previously that the food was over salted, we asked Max who annotated our choices not to salt our food….. when our steak, french fries and tomato salad arrived they were liberally sprinkled with sea salt! We have a place in Spain where salt is produced and know how powerful sea salt is, why oh why do your cooks feel they need to decorate their food which sodium crystals which mask the flavour of the food ! Please please stop and let the food, cooking and flavours speak for themselves!

very different from the standard chain hotel. Beautiful old property with a mainly young and helpful staff. Comfortable and well appointed bedroom with stunning bathrooms, yes two! One with roll top bath and one with shower and toilet. Did find the room lacking in a dressing table for doing make up and drying hair. The reason for less than 5 star review is unfortunately I found the room incredibly noisy as the property sits on three roads and the traffic noise was a real issue. also the noise from the room above was very intrusive every time they moved around. There are a number of dining areas which were not that inspiring, some very dark and uninviting. The food was of a good standard and although they do not offer room service they kindly bought my meal to my room on the first night as I arrived after a very long day and did not feel like a dining experience. I am a small eater but found the portions perfect for me but I can imagine some would find the portions on the small side for the price. Another slight annoyance is they offer a bed and breakfast rate but only offer a continental breakfast as included. Anything cooked is extra which is a bit of a con. Altogether a pleasant place to stay apart from the road noise which of course they can do nothing about!

Very pleasant one night stay. So much is considered for a guest's convenience that you feel cosseted from start to finish. The food is excellent and I especially loved the extremely generous full English. Next time I wouldn't bother though because the 'help your self' continental buffet was gorgeous. Huge selection of fruits, pastries and preserves etc. My only criticism, if it is one, is we were stuck up right at the top of the building and as I'm pretty dodgy on my legs these days I should have asked for a different room. Not their fault, mine alone. Overall thoroughly recommend.

The venue is beautiful & the grounds & planting stunning! I felt the prices for drinks & food was inflated, possibly as a result of the rewards The Red Duke is currently receiving, and didn't match the quality of menus on offer. Service is good, but again for the level of cost, this was not represented.
