Arrived up from Cork slightly late for 7pm reunion dinner. First impressions when I walked in the door very good, checked in with full payment taken which was fine. Left my overnight case in the room and heard a noisy fan which I would check out later. Arrived to dining room to reconnect with lads I have not seen for many years. They were all seated and had placed their orders. Dining staff were very attentive to me and I placed my order with them. Food was excellent with a delay between courses which was understandable as a busy hotel with another function and restaurant to cater for. Returned to my room after midnight to unpack and investigate fan noise. I did not see a wall controller for a fan coil unit which I could switch off. Discovered room was space heated by a radiator with natural ventilation (i.e. no cooling). Behind a non see through curtain I noticed the window was partially open which I closed. The noise level was at an unacceptable level continuous throughout the night that I was unable to sleep. I was trying to figure out why noise was continuous from HVAC equipment in a hotel setting and all I could think of did someone leave on a kitchen extract hood exhaust fan, was it external DX refrigeration equipment serving a Kitchen Cold Room(s)/fridges to maintain required internal temperatures or a chiller? Anyway I would check out during daylight. I tried to sleep in the en-suite with the door shut but the noise level was unacceptable even there. So I just stayed awake and when daylight broke I discovered understandably I was unable to open the window fully to go on to the flat room and determine the noise source. Looking out the window I did see a double stacked supply/extract AHU on the left side, a number of DX condensers straight ahead with some fan units to the left of them. Went down for breakfast saw a guy clearing tables gave him my room number and helped myself to orange juice and Alpen which was lovely and joined some former class mates at their table. Would have loved tea and toast but there seemed to be nobody around to ask. Returned to my room made tea and went to a reunion morning presentations with some hobnob biscuits I had brought with me. At about 11am we had a presentation break and at this stage I became shattered with tiredness and returned to my room and whatever about continuous fan noise I just lay down on the bed resting till about 1.30pm having skipped post break presentations. I found a lovely coffee shop in the nearby shopping Centre.. When I waked in the staff were very welcoming and I explained that I was tight on time and requested a flat white and a cheese tootsie which to the surprise of a foreign guy I paid in advance. A foreign woman came to check with me was everything ok and when I explained why I was in the area after so many years and all the changes to a little village that I knew way back. We had a great chat and she even shook hands with me. As I had to leave at 2pm I lifted up my cup
