Certainly an establishment with lots of character. Our room was spacious and fully self contained. Very comfy bed and spotlessly clean apartment. Being near the cathedral sleep quality not good as noise from streets outside and rubbish recycling trucks operating nearby in the middle of the night. This was made worst as we were unable to close the window as the pull cord had a stop fixed in it. Also there were a few loose floor tiles in the bathroom we had to be careful of. The OGB Bar downstairs was excellent serving hand drawn real ale and great cocktails. Food looked good too. Very friendly staff. Would stay here again as great central location and it’s a quirky hotel.

Great location - right on cathedral square, just at the end of the cathedral. Easy walking distance to the river, botanic gardens, old university buildings (now exhibition halls), many cafes and restaurants and the Riverside Market. Inside of Old Government Building (OGB) from 1905. Huge loft suite (over 800 sq. ft). Nice gym, sauna, spa and indoor pool in the basement. Bathrooms becoming a bit dated and starting to show expected wear in the furnishings. Check-in and out is remotely done - pick-up, drop-off keys via a lock box just down the hall from the entry (easier done than anticipated). Would stay again when in Christchurch.

For our 20th Wedding Anniversary, we decided to be tourists in our own city for a few nights. There's no better place to do that than OGB. It's as central as you can get. It has character. It has one of the coolest bars in town just below. You can walk to everything - the riverside market, the boatsheds, the gondola, the strip, the arts-centre - it's all there. The suites have access to the pool/spa/gym facilities onsite. The rooms are a good size. Beds comfy. Service great as always. It's something special.
