Hotel San Lorenzo Chiavenna

We had a really good stay at San Lorenzo. The gentleman on the front counter was friendly (his English was much better than my Italian!). Check in was fast. The room was typical European size (a bit on the small side) but well appointed and very clean. The restaurant downstairs was excellent - the staff were friendly and the food was good quality and good value. I loved this town as a destination because of the small size and small crowds. Just to get out of the hotel and walk around was great!

Sitting outside on the terrace with some glimpses of the beautiful surrounding mountains this was a pleasant stop . the staff were outstandingly friendly . The local specialities were unfortunately not to our taste ( not their fault ) and the creme brûlée desert was not top level . nevertheless this was in large part made up for by the very friendly and chatty staff who stayed open for us even though we were beyond closing time .

The hotel was recommended to us by people, who live in Chiavenna, and they told us to request rooms at the more quiet backside. Booking through internet was easy, but we got no reply regarding the room. The hotel is close to the railway and bus station, but also to the old center of this pretty Alpine town. When checking in we repeated our request for a room at the back. The man in charge took his time, but then managed to get us one, which is not facing the rather noisy front. The room - unlike some others - had no balcony, just a French window with railings. The view towards the mountains and the San Lorenzo campanile was superb though. The room was bare, modern and rather small. It was hard for two people to move between bed and wardrobe. The mattress of the bed was excellent. A reading lamp on one side of the bed wasn't functioning. After our second request at reception to have it fixed, it was put in order. With the big wardrobe and drawers by the bed the storage space is adequate. There is also a long desk against the wall, but with no light. Some people might miss tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom had a bidet, as so often in Italy, and a hydromassage shower cabin with seating, which was all in all too narrow to move around. There were two small bottles of combined body and hair wash gel, which were replaced, when empty. The room was very clean and the room service excellent. The hotel also has a restaurant on the ground floor, where from 7 to 10am breakfast is served. There was a quite big, very Italian buffet, with plenty of sweets, but also fresh fruit, yoghurt and cereals. In one corner were high quality bread, cheese and ham, but as so often in Italy no eggs. What I didn't particularly like was their coffee from the machine. Chiavenna is worth a visit, also as a starting point for many excursions and for tasting Valtellina food and wine in one of the crotti. The San Lorenzo hotel is a very convenient, no-fuss place to use as a base.

Posizione comoda per passeggiate in centro. Ampio parcheggio pubblico a disposizione oltre al privato. Cortese il personale che ci ha concesso il cambio della stanza dopo una notte passata insonne causa materasso a molle obsoleto. Prima colazione decisamente da migliorare in qualità ed in proposta.

Pernottamento per una sola notte per poter andare a fare i passi Maloja e Spluga. Hotel pulito posto in posizione super centrale ma senza avere disturbi o schiamazzi, buona insonorizzazione. Molto apprezzato il ristorante, qualità prezzo eccellente. Buona la colazione, qualche torta, yogurt, brioches mentre la parte salata solo prosciutto e formaggio. Eccellente che l'orario sia dalle 7 per chi deve uscire in gita a piedi o bici. Ottimo il parcheggio gratuito anche coperto. unica pecca i numerosi disagi dati dalle tessere magnetiche e la mancanza totale di una poltrona/sedia vicino alla reception. praticamente o si sta in camera o all'aperto. manca proprio un piccolo spazio lettura/relax. non ci sono servizi ecco. Cordialità molto positiva e in generale soddisfatto. PS pizza da pizzeria , ricca e buonissima

La mia recensione riguarda il ristorante che ha deluso le aspettative,sala moderna ,ordinata e pulita ma al tavolo tovagliolo di carta ,menù un po’ scarso di scelta è la qualità andante , usciti dal ristorante non propriamente soddisfatti .

Locale molto accogliente ma il cibo era veramente insipido, il ragù sembra in scatola pronta e non aveva alcun sapore. Prezzo spropositato sia per la qualità che per il servizio offerto. Si centro di chiavenna ma senza vista quindi prezzo non giustificabile.

Hotel in centro con le migliori attrazioni raggiungibili a piedi. Personale gentile, camera spaziosa vista montagne e ottima pulizia. Si nota che le camere sono praticamente nuove. Colazione semplice ma con buoni prodotti. Ci tornerei sicuramente

Op zich goed hotel. Betaald parkeren op paar tientallen meters afstand, onbetaald op paar honderd meter afstand achter het station. Kamers en ontbijt ok, diner redelijk. Waren met grote groep en ondanks confirmatie de bar pas laat open. Gemiste kans. Elders gezellige kroeg gevonden (op ca 150 meter afstand). Aanrader (zie recensie daarover).
