The Harbourview Hotel

Special Birthday lunch but totally underwhelming bland food. Looked pale and anaemic and we both had the champ and whiskey chicken with sauce and onion rings. The onion rings were crispy but the pale meal boring and lacked flavour. Service was below average and very basic. No pleasantries or friendly welcome. We were both so disappointed and this was a special birthday

My wife and I had an overnight stay at the Harbourview recently. The hotel has been refurbished to a good standard. Our room was well furnished and the decor was very much in keeping with the age of the building. Bathroom was great and bed very comfy. However I am sorry to say that the breakfast was the worst experience we have ever had at any hotel in over 20 years. There was simply no communication from any staff as to how breakfast was meant to be organised. The first member of staff to greet us didn't even ask for our room number but simply pointed to a table that she said we should sit at. Upon taking our seats I looked around to see if there was any cereals, orange juice etc on offer but there didn't seem to be anything available. After about 5 mins another member of staff came to take our order. Again she failed to mention if cereals, pastries, fruit, yoghurts etc were available at all, but simply asked what we wanted to order. So I ordered the cooked breakfast and my wife ordered the same but without any of the meat products. No vegetarian cooked breakfast is listed on the menu which is a bit odd in this day and age. We also ordered a pot of tea. After a few mins a pot of tea was brought to our table. After the tea was left we noticed that we had no milk at our table so we had to wait for about a mins before I could request a jug of milk be brought. So far not so great. Then the cooked breakfasts arrived. To say the plates looked underwhelming is being kind. My breakfast consisted of 1 small sausage about the size of my index finger, 1 piece of bacon, 1 very small piece of potato bread. 1 piece of soda bread, 1 fried tomato and a fried egg. The yolk of the egg was a very pale yellow which to me means it was not free range and of poor quality. I didn't get any black pudding. My wife's breakfast was not much better and she didn't even get any extra egg or potato bread or soda bread to make up for not having any meat on her plate. We finished our cooked breakfasts quite quickly given the small portions so I decided to ask for some toast as I was still feeling hungry. I ordered white toast and strangely the waitress asked if I wanted butter with it. Naturally I said yes as normally I don't eat dry toast. After a couple of mins a waiter came along and placed a plate of brown toast on the table. He then proceeded to ask me if I wanted butter with it! In all my time eating in hotels, restaurants and cafes I have never been asked if I wanted butter with toast but at the Harbourview it happened twice in about 5 mins. Surely bringing butter with toast is a standard thing and shouldn't be seen as an extra! To sum up I think the Harbourview really needs to up it's game regarding the breakfast offering - both in quality of service and quality of produce. It is the only time I have left a hotel feeling hungry after eating breakfast. If we were to stay again we would book room only and have breakfast across the road at the Harbour Lights cafe as

My husband and I loved the beautiful drive up the coast from Belfast to this gem of a town to enjoy this Irish Whiskey Hotel experience. The attention to detail in the hotel rooms and quiet lounges was just amazing. The whiskey selection was the best we have seen yet on the Island and the food at the restaurant just delicious. Staff were so helpful and friendly. We will be back to enjoy more sunsets at the harbour and walks to the falls!

What a wonderful evening at the Harbourview Hotel. Let’s start with the staff. Everyone was friendly, willing, and always had a smile. In particular Paul, the general manager, took the time to greet us personally and give us a tour of the hotel. Harbourview is a whiskey destination hotel that has one of the best selections of Irish whiskey I’ve seen on the island. We spent the evening having a few pours from their vast selection then went for a walk around the village before dinner. My wife and I shared two mains, the steak and the salmon (delicious) after starting off with the seafood stew. I’ll be dreaming about the stew for weeks! We then walked along a beautiful path leading back to an old quarry and then to the Cranny Waterfall. Stunning! Once back to the hotel we finished the evening with a nightcap and a bowl of vanilla ice cream topped with berries and Pedro Ximenez sherry. To die for! After a luxurious nights sleep, we are headed back to Belfast, only 45 minutes by car along the coast. WE WILL BE BACK!

Stayed here for 1 night with my daughter yesterday..room was beautiful very well done up long over due.. we booked a table for 6pm for dinner for 6 adults & 2 kids we were told to wait in bar as table wasnt ready may i add we were in bar from about 5.50pm by 6.30 we were still waiting i asked what was the hold up to be told a 30th birthday party were leaving etc would you have seated us had we been half an hour late.. finally got seated the menu is very limited..gave our order which waz 6 mains no starters etc well the wait was absoloutley ridiculous ! we were nearly leaving but food arrived.. none of us were impressed by our food def was not worth the wait.. this is my 3rd time staying here from last year and every time we have trouble getting back into hotel after midnight ladt night was no exception . What is your policy on getting back in after closing as noone was at reception we rang banged on the door nearly afraid of getting told off if wakend other guests sleeping in rooms at the front finally got let in where does your night porter be ?? Got into our room and i ws lookn forward to a cup of tea & a biscuit my goodness your charging £175 for 1night twin room surely you could provide a biscuit along with the tea/coffee you provide!! Sorry but would not eat or stay here again

Sunday lunch just ok Limited Menu Inexperiensed staff food 5 out of 10 nice renovation job.But room for improvement.........
