Terrible Privacy and Security Concerns at the Onyx Hotel, Cape Town
I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Onyx Hotel in Cape Town from May 13 to May 21, 2023. My stay was marred by several distressing incidents that severely compromised our privacy and safety. I feel compelled to share my disappointment and warn others about the glaring issues I encountered.
To begin with, we were shocked when an unknown individual entered our locked room without any prior indication or even bothering to knock. Although the person quickly retreated upon seeing my wife inside, the incident left us feeling violated and unsafe. When we reported the incident to the hotel management, their response was lackluster, merely assuring us that they had addressed the matter by reviewing the room access cards of their employees. Such a nonchalant approach to a serious breach of privacy is simply unacceptable.
Regrettably, the second incident was even more distressing. Despite taking precautions such as keeping our valuables in separate wallets within different compartments of my backpack, we discovered that someone had meticulously searched through all our luggage. Shockingly, they had selectively removed a single banknote from each bundle of money we had stored, which included various currencies. It is worth noting that in our extensive travels to 65 countries prior to this, we had never encountered such a disheartening incident.
The Hotel General Manager's response to our complaint only added to our frustration. In a letter, they focused solely on the investigation into the lost money, completely missing the point that our privacy had been grossly violated. This lack of understanding and empathy from the management further reinforces my belief that the Onyx Hotel does not prioritize the well-being and satisfaction of its guests.
Based on these unsettling experiences, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend the Onyx Hotel to anyone. The disregard for guest privacy, the ineffective response to security breaches, and the apparent indifference shown by the management team make this establishment an untrustworthy and unworthy choice for accommodation. I strongly advise prospective visitors to explore alternative options that prioritize guest safety, privacy, and satisfaction.

我们于2023年5月13日至5月21日入住开奥尼克斯酒店式公寓-纽马克。在我们的住宿期间,我们经历了一些严重事件,侵犯了我们的隐私和安全。首先,有人在未敲门或给出其他提示的情况下进入我们上锁的房间,当时我一个人在房间,看到我后,该人立即离开。在我们投诉后,酒店的管理层告知我们,通过检查员工的房间门禁卡,该问题已得到解决。第二个事件更糟糕,我先生将一定数量的不同的货币现金,放在两个不同的钱包中,这些钱包分别放在我先生背包的不同隔层中。由于背包是合上的,并放在我先生上锁的行李箱里,有人搜查了我们所有的行李,选择性地从每沓中偷走了人民币共200元,南非兰特100元。在我们之前去过的65个国家中,我们从未经历过这样的事件。酒店总经理给我们发来一封信,只关注对金钱损失的调查,没有理解到我们的隐私受到了侵犯,更没有提供任何有效的解决方案,让我们非常不满!此酒店没有安全感!!!
被盗窃的当天,我们马上反馈携程的管家工作人员,他们很用心的跟踪着此事件;真的,当时应该北京时间凌晨3点多,管家工作人员致电来安慰我,真的很温暖!
