+ points: Location, staff, clean rooms, value for money - points: Struggled to pay for holiday as the link the room management company provide didn't work. Contacting the hotel by phone seems impossible. WiFi. Come on guys its 2025! Why does the WiFi only works in certain areas of the hotel?

This was our 2nd visit to the 'Africamar', after a 37 year gap! Yes, things were different this time. Last time we had 3 young children with us. It was a wonderful surprise to find that it was still owned by the same Family. Meeting their extended Family was great, although it did make us feel old! This time the two of us were simply wanting an easy, relaxing, 'crash-out' week. Our suite was on the 3rd floor, and created from combining 2 bedrooms, with one of the bathrooms converted into a well equipped kitchen. Our long balcony had views down to the sea, and the headlands by Alcudia. We did our own breakfasts and some light-lunches. A bonus was the ALDI supermarket only 200 metres away, along the main road. During the day, it was very relaxing sitting by the pool, enjoying a drink, and chatting with other visitors. The Bar, and reception, services were under the charge of the delightful, hyperactive Melisano. These roles were carried out by Natcho in the evenings. In close proximity to the Hotel, along the path down to the Beach, were a wide choice of Bars & Restaurants, several of which we visited. Yes, we enjoyed our time in and around the Africamar, and would recommend it for those wanting an easy, relaxing time.

The first time we have stayed at hotel Africa Mar and we will definitely be back. Rooms are big with plenty of storage and a very comfortable bed and a small fridge. The bathroom had a fantastic walk in shower and a hairdryer. The owners and staff are very friendly, the bar/lounge is large with comfortable seating and the pool though not the biggest is well appointed with lovely loungers and seating.

I stayed in Africamar with my husband the last week of October. I can honestly say that we have travelled all over the world and have NEVER had service or hospitality like what we received from Juan, Deirdre and their family. To begin, the hotel is basic- a comfortable 3 star. However, it is spotlessly clean and perfectly serviceable. It was so refreshing to stay in a hotel that was family owned- the family were always in the property, they remembered names and small details, such a difference to a 5 star property that is top facilities but little personal touch. On our final day, our coach was not collecting us until 5pm. We were due to leave our room at 10am and as it was the final day of the season were at a very loose end. Deirdre and her son Juan welcomed us to stay in the hotel even though it was closed. They gave us coffee, cake and said allowing us to stay around was a pleasure. Nacho and Melissa were absolutely outstanding on the bar, nothing was too much trouble. In short, is it basic- yes, is it 5 star- no… but if you want a friendly property that makes me feel so important, this is the place for you. We have already booked to go again next year. The location is exceptional also, right beside the bus stop to Palma, Alcudia etc. Beach very close and shops literally on your doorstep.

This was our fifth visit to this hotel. There were some changes to the hotel as they no longer serve any hot food. If you don’t have an apartment it means you have to leave the hotel for every meal. They used to do a great breakfast to start the day. Nacho behind the bar is 10/10. He’s a massive credit to this hotel. He’s a great cocktail maker. The hotel is in a good location with a straight walk down hill to the beach. The cleaning service is very hit and miss. To try to get extra towels is difficult. There are no facilities in the room in terms of a kettle or fridge. When you ask for these they try but it’s a massive struggle so won’t be helpful if you have children. The pool area is very small.

Many thanks and appreciation to Deidre and Juan who have created such a superb inclusive environment at Africamar. This hotel is a place that embraces diversity and welcomes everybody and has a very special community of guests. We had such a fabulous time in summer 2023 that we decided to return for a second time for our Jet2 summer holiday 2024. In fact, we’ve decided to make this our summer destination of choice going forward and will be returning again next year for summer 2025. A huge thank you to Nacho and Melissa behind the bar who really put in every effort to make your days and evenings around the pool comfortable and keep you topped up with refreshments. Although watch out for those “Melissa measures” they’ll have you tipsy in no time. Top tip try a Mai Tai cocktail. The hotel no longer provides hot food, but offer a selection of delicious pastries. We recommend the Mallorca Croissant but hurry because they sell out quickly. If a cooked breakfast is your thing then there are a wide variety of restaurants on the door step. The best British breakfast in our opinion was at Trotters Bar just across the road from the hotel. The one thing that really makes Africamar special is the family run Mallorcan/Scottish welcome you experience from the moment you arrive and the community of visitors who appear to visit year upon year. In fact we spoke to one couple who have been visiting Africamar for 19 years. Top tip, always ask reception if you need anything. You can ask for a fridge, kettle, iron, fan etc and it will magically appear in your room. Can Picafort is a fabulous resort and a very European town with visitors from Germany, Italy, France and Spain. We were also surprised to find this to be a destination of choice for American visitors too. Whilst in Can Picafort be sure to visit, The Royal Indian restaurant and our personal favourite Monaco. Top tip make a reservation during the day to avoid the queue in the evening. This year we took advantage of the local bus network to explore further afield. It was so easy to use with a “tap on, tap off” facility. The bus stop is located just a couple of minutes walk near Aldi where you will find a direct service to Alcudia, Sa Pablo, Inca and Palma. If you need a day off from the sunshine, we recommend you get the 302 bus to Palma which is a 1 hour 20 minutes journey away. You will not be disappointed. Our top tip would be to visit the Cathedral, Royal Palace and Art galleries. A superb city with brilliant shopping, restaurants and Spanish culture.
