Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa

My son and I were able to experience Langdon Hall’s Maple Harvest recently and it was wonderful! We had a delicious lunch in the Main Dining Room and met Jeremy, the head groundskeeper, after lunch. Jeremy walked us over to the maple sugaring station where we discovered that attempts to harvest sap from the black walnut trees on the property were successful this year. We had known this was a goal from our visit last year but the colder winter made the dream of collecting this sap real. With Renard, the ‘mad scientist’, we tasted maple and black walnut sap (they are different from each other in subtle but significant ways) and maple and black walnut syrup. The synergistic relationship between the kitchen and the grounds was on full display as we talked about how the black walnut syrup could be used (black walnuts candied in black walnut syrup - delicious!; black walnut syrup in whisky cocktails - please have some on board at Christmas!). Walking through the greenhouses was another experience that illuminated the connection between the grounds and the kitchen. It is no accident that food is so delicious at LH. The creativity of Jason B., his chefs and the groundskeepers takes dining to another level. Our last stop was with Cody who taught us how to make maple bouchons, using science to explain how bouchons are made. There were, of course, candied walnuts to try and a delicious cold-brewed black walnut coffee to fortify us before our return trip to the GTA. All in all, a not-to-be-missed experience. Kudos to LH for such a wonderful day!

Poor customer service experience at both the spa and reservations desk coupled with a lack of attention to detail. Since this was the first time visiting the hotel, we posed questions about the rooms, spa and the grounds and the entire team had very limited knowledge. Do not be fooled with Weekend Getaway Packages and be sure to ask about the fee details since there is very little transparency on pricing. Not what I expected and definitely not recommended.

We had a nice visit. On the whole the room was nice, the restaurant was very good, the spa was awesome, the people are very hospitable. Be aware: the room we stayed in with a fireplace has a very smoky odor. It seems wherever there is a wood burning fireplace in the building you get this strong odor which is to be expected, the fireplaces are not the kind with sealed glass doors, if you are sensitive to this then choose a room without the fireplace. The dining is very good but caters to wine so don’t expect a lot of choice if you drink beer like me, they do have some cans and they do have Guinness yay! Their draft beer is ok if you like lager with fruity taste. We didn’t get a chance to see the trails. A bit pricey but a good spot to go for a getaway, and the spa is exceptional.

I attended a wedding at Langdon Hall and stayed in the main building room 7, hoping for a luxurious experience. Unfortunately, the stay was marked by a significant issue: the fire alarm went off multiple times during the night after having a staff member light the wood-burning fireplace in our room. This filled the room with smoke, and since the windows were non-operational, we had no way to ventilate. We spent the night inhaling smoke, and when I reported this to the front desk, I was met with a dismissive response, simply being told, “sometimes this happens.” The lack of empathy and attention to guest safety left me disappointed, especially at a property known for its excellence. I expected more from Langdon Hall, and I hope management takes steps to prevent this from happening to future guests.

We wanted a special night away for something different to do and see. My husband chose this location. Who knew there was something this nice in Cambridge? Gorgeous rooms. Property was expansive. We enjoyed the claw foot tub in our room with the wonderful bath bomb supplied. Service was beyond what I expected. Steam room was great too! Spent next day by the pool. Food and restaurant service was amazing. Highly recommend a night away here.

This past weekend my partner and I had the opportunity to enjoy the Grand Tasting Menu experience and it was everything we were hoping for. We have dined and enjoyed several types of tasting menu experiences over the years but this really stood out to us. The presentation of the dishes were so visually appealing but the type of plate ware as well was very unique to the dishes themselves; which added to the overall enjoyment. The flavors were elegant and fresh, portion sizes fair but not much. It was difficult to choose a favorite after it was completed which is always a great sign. Each course seemed to outshine the next with an excellent balance of flavors. The service element to this experience was a real treat and a stand out highlight. Tyler was our server; more of a culinary guide to be honest. His explanations with each course were more than simply that; he consistently found a way to tell a story connecting each dish to the property or Chef Jason himself. That is truly something we have never seen or experienced. That level of service requires more than training, a lot of servers can memorize and reproduce. Tyler demonstrated true passion, integrity and professionalism. He represented the experience at the highest level and was the perfect complement to the cuisine. Even with multiple guests to take care of, when he approached our table never once was the story rushed or his attention deflected. With experience within the industry that’s not easy; well done!!! We left dinner (more like a culinary show) feeling like royalty. Thank you Langdon Hall, Chef Jason, and Tyler for creating a lasting memory and experience that will never be forgotten.
